I went to the quilt show in Miamisburg yesterday. It was very nice. My favorite quilt shop was there among others. And some beautiful quilts on display. My favorite was a Dear Jane quilt done entirely by hand and my other favorite was the oldest quilt in the show. The oldest I have ever seen. It was found in someones attic. It was in fantastic condition, and it was made in the 1830's or 40's. So amazing to see such an old quilt. It is about 100 years older than my oldest quilt. It was neat…

Susan, I have made personalized quilts of their interest, for each of my grandchildren. When I was working on a guitar design for a older grandson, I asked my 9 year old grandson what design he would like for a quilt. He told me a quilt with drums on it and he drew me a design. He received a drum set for his birthday and so I knew he was serious about drumming. I started searching on Google for drum design quilts...if any were out there. I came across your Jazz-Attack-Drummer on Jukebox Quilts and I bought the pattern. I just finished it, well almost, but Owen wanted to take it home and since it was for Christmas, I let him have it without me finishing some details. It has been fun to do and I added some creative touches. I have attached a picture. Thank you for creating the pattern.
Wow, you have made some beautiful things. But that pirate quilt jumped out and grabbed me! lol Also love the owl and the couple on the beach. As you can tell I like novelty quilts and fabrics. The first quilt I ever made was just like your blue nine patch. I wish I had a photo of it but don't. Keep up the good work and keep having fun.l
we lived in moscow ohio yrs ago on one of his job assignments. passed thru ohio many times over the years going to and from job assignments. i love that state, it is just so beautiful. this area used to be concord grapes also. locals tell me that at one time it was one of welches main juice grape production areas. we have snokist and many of the big canned food places around here, most shutting down, partly because of nafta they tell me, especially with the asperagas growers.
i will probably not get started on or finish my grape block much before the holidays..get fruit dried, toms canned peps roasted .. all the food stuff done...my dried fruit very popular w family and my friend in holland has been introduced to "trail mix" made w my dried fruit and nuts .. & M&Ms ...she thinks that it is as great as the pepper jack cheese idea from america! ..mad dash in october to blow lines, mulch for winter, get faucets wrapped...then i get to come in and start my holiday sewing and gift making. my fav time of year. about end of hot august, i am asking every one...is it time for snow yet? lollol
Hi Susan
The color catchers you sent by post have arrived! THANK YOU so much .. I can't wait to try them out. They smell good too. We have autumn weather with all the leaves turning and piling up needing to be swept away. The birds are gathering to fly north for warmer weather. greeting from the tip of Africa.
Love Jenny
No - No such luxury as colour catchers here - tell me more! We are advised to wash and press every fabric we use to check for colour fastness, sizing residue and shrinkage before we start. There is a fabric printed in SA by Da Gama which is the traditional indigo dye fabric with lovely German print designs. It is called Shweshwe - is the name given - as this is the sound it makes when you walk in a skirt or clothing made from it. It is 100% cotton and after multiple washes is soft and divine to wear and use in quilt-making. They now produce other colours too.
I'm just the same - I read in bed, just before I go to sleep, or in the tub in the evening. It usually takes me a couple of weeks to get through a book but that's all right. I prefer to savor a good one.
Hi Susan,
Not sure if I'm doing this in the right place but so glad you've enjoyed the Cobbled Court books. Yes, there is another one coming out on April 24th, TIES THAT BIND. Hope you get a chance to read it!
What are you working on now?
Welcome Quilter Friend!
Just wanted to pop in to say “hello” and introduce myself. I’m Linda Hubalek, fellow quilter and author from Kansas. Books about pioneer women are my specialty, with a cooking or a quilting theme mixed into each historical fiction series.
My Trail of Thread historical fiction book series, written in the form of letters sent back home, describes my ancestors’ wagon trail journey and homesteading in Kansas. Each book mentions twelve old-time quilt patterns, and I put drawings of them in the back of the books.
So if you like to read—besides quilting—please enjoy my blog and book excerpts on my website. Besides printed as paperbacks, my ten books are also available for your Kindle or Nook.
I have about a dozen quilts made by my great grandmother, (that we used all the time when I was a kid) so I’m into antique quilts and patterns. What kind of quilts and patterns do you like to work with?
Happy quilting and reading!
Linda Hubalek
