My class topics are listed above, sorted by Quilting, Needle Tatting, & Crochet. Photos of projects from some of my classes can be viewed in My Photos (i.e. photo albums) shown above.
After I have scheduled a class topic for a specific session (date, time & location), I will add it under My Events. This will indicate that at least 1 student has pre-registered for that specific class topic & session.
Please contact me directly (email@example.com) if you have questions about my classes. Hobby Lobby does not handle any registration details for the instructors, does not handle payments for classes, and does not provide sewing machines or other equipment. Hobby Lobby does sell supplies for the classes. Minimal information about the classes may be available in the Clinton Highway store, where I usually leave flyers and my business card.
I teach most of my classes at the Hobby Lobby stores in Knoxville or Oak Ridge, TN. Each store has a classroom, and I reserve the classrooms for specific dates & times, one month at a time. You can also check the Hobby Lobby website (www.hobbylobby.com) for general information on Store Classes under the Store Finder, although it is not always up-to-date and does not always display all classes.
Class Sessions & Pre-Registering:
Students contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) to request the class topic that they want before we select a date & time. I ask for a minimum of 3 students per class session, or else the class is taught as a private lesson (with a higher cost). I keep a waiting list of individual students who want a specific class but do not want a private lesson. Usually a new class can be scheduled within 1-4 weeks.
Pre-registering for classes in advance is important. I only drive to the classroom on dates when I have students pre-registered for a specific class topic. I print enough handouts for the students who pre-registered, but usually do not bring extras.
Pre-registration can be handled by phone or by email to me, then I will confirm via email to the student with the supply list attached.
Normal class sessions reserved at Hobby Lobby at 6580 Clinton Highway:
Monday mornings, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
(other days may be scheduled if the classroom is available)
Normal class sessions reserved at Hobby Lobby at 11040 Parkside Drive, in Turkey Creek shopping center:
Wednesdays, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
(other days may be scheduled if the classroom is available)
Normal class sessions reserved at Hobby Lobby at 380 South Illinois Avenue, in Oak Ridge:
I will schedule classes upon request when the classroom is available.
After you pre-register, I will e-mail the supply list to you. Students are responsible for bringing their own supplies, unless special arrangements are made with the instructor in advance.
It is best if you pre-register at least 2 days before the class session, so that you have time to purchase your supplies before class. I encourage you to purchase supplies at the store where the class is held, but I cannot guarantee that supplies will be in-stock on the day of class.
The class fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of each class session.
Fees vary between classes, depending on the class topic, the length of the class session(s), and the location. Private lessons are available for higher fees. The class fee normally does not include any supplies.
I always welcome suggestions for additional classes or topics that students would like to learn.
Happy Quilting, Tatting, & Crocheting! Monica
Here is the 2019 schedule for meetings of the ACTS Ministry (Arts, Crafts, Teaching & Sharing) at West Hills Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN.
This is a group of people who get together to crochet, quilt, sew, needle tat, knit, make jewelry, and enjoy each others company. We multiply our joys and divide our burdens while we meet with each other. Many members of this group are not members of this church, as we met through classes…
I plan to reoffer my class to make a simplified Dresden Plate quilt block using machine piecing & applique techniques. Several students have requested this class. I hope to schedule it in August or September, 2015. You can find additional details for this class under My Events in January 2014, where the original sessions were listed. The class will now be 2 sessions of 3 hrs. each, as this is a complicated block using piecing, applique…
Be careful how you handle & clean your plastic rotary cutting rulers. The grids and markings (on the bottom surface) can be damaged or removed if cleaned with the wrong solvents or liquids.
A friend just tried cleaning rulers with rubbing alcohol, and found that this removed the grid lines from 1 brand of ruler but did not damage a different brand of ruler. (So this can vary between different brands of rulers.)
I recently read that fingernail polish (which may contain…Continue
I am starting a new group for quilters in west Knoxville, TN, at my church. The first meeting will be Wednesday, April 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (if we want to stay that long). It is at West Hills Baptist Church, 409 N. Winston Rd. (across from the West Side YMCA and behind Toys-R-Us) in room 39. We will discuss when to schedule future meetings, probably once each month. Bring whatever project you want to work on and everything that you need. Also bring a sack lunch &…Continue
I have been teaching quilting for over 2-1/2 years. Here are some of my tips for more accurate rotary cutting. For those quilters who want their blocks to be "square" and their points to match, it starts with how accurately you cut the fabric. Fabric always has some stretch in it, so you have to deal with that even if you cut perfectly. Applying spray starch to the fabric when pressing it before cutting will help, but that is not a good option if you are doing fusible…Continue
I am offering a progression of basic skills classes for beginning and intermediate quilters. These are Trend classes which I taught at the local JoAnn's craft store(s) in Knoxville, TN. Private lessons are also an option. Most of my students start as beginners, just learning to use the rotary cutter and some just learning to use the sewing machine. Several students have taken my Block of the Month classes in 2013, and their skills are increasing with each class - to become intermediate…Continue
