Profile Information

Tell us about yourself—as much or as little as you like.
I am a quilter of 30 years an Art quilt of 20 years but in between I was a professional Chef. I made my first quilt in the early 80's living in the Burbs of Chicago for my niece (she still has it). After moving to WIS. I learned how to hand piece, and applique from a friend (thank you Susan Parton). I taught myself how to free-motion machine quilt with a spring needle. I also joined my first quilt guild in the early 90's. There are so many wonderful quilters out there.

I became an Art Quilter after moving to Tempe AZ for the "Main Street Mavericks" in Mesa, AZ. That is where I found my real niche of Art Quilting. I was a very active quilter till I went to culinary school and became a Professional Chef for the Ritz Carleton in Scottsdale AZ.
Then my quilting was on hold till moving to Florida after a second neck surgery that gave me the time to do my quilts again.

I am recently recovering of spinal surgery.

I am a big lover of hand work but the design and execution of the whole project is exciting. I love the creative flow, my favorites are still basket blocks and the pineapple.

Since my neck issues from the last 4 years I was very active with SAQA (Studio Arts Quilt Association) plus a representative for several years. In the past 8 years I have taken classes to open up that field of finding a new niche for me!

Lately I have fallen in love with the Baltimore Album quilts. That Art Quilt 'Mojo' is streaming into my blood stream once again.
How many quilts have you made?
Lost my count many unfinished projects. I lost many precious quilts during Hurricane Charlie. Many big ones are very worn working on more to replace. I do have alot of wall quilts still
Do you want to make quilts, or simply enjoy them?
I love the craft just working with fabric and reconstructing it to something that is gorgeous! I strive to keep the hand work visibal as we need to hold onto our craft and share it with others.
How long have you been a quilter?
30 years plus teaching , 20 yrs as an Art quilter and demonstrator.
What is your favorite quilting technique?
Always strive for daily play to keep the mind playful! I love the art of - hand needle turn applique
Why do you quilt?
Just need to keep my mind and hands busy! For the tension relief and the art form & love to work with my hands! Being disabled it is the only thing I can do at a slow pace on and off.

HELP SCRAP DONATIONS!

Posted on March 9, 2013 at 2:00pm 34 Comments

I am looking for SCRAP Donations!

I am looking for scraps that I have to cut up into 1 1/2" squares for a postage stamp quilt as a 60th wedding quilt for my parents July 2014! I already have about 200 squares started but I will need at least 6000 - 1.5" squares of light, medium and dark squares prints and solids. If I have extra I plan to do the…

Hey Chef. I can't commit to a swap right now. I have several large quilts in process and I need to get them off my to do list. Thanks for thinking of me.

Can't attach questionnaires here, have to be to your personal email because of personal content. But if you can't commit then it's better to wait till next year. I don't want someone to trade names and then have someone not receive a package in December. But please take part in the conversations, etc.

Lisa,  I appologize for not responding sooner.  I am new to this website and I just saw you comment on my wall today.  I am originally from Micanopy, FL and now live in Loganville, GA just east of Atlanta.  I had sent you a note about all of the similarities between you and my husband and the places you have both lived.  He was born in Chicago, moved to Wisconsin in his early twenties, then to Tucson, AZ, and now in GA.

And to make it even more surreal, my husband had back surgery first in Dec 2015 and had fusion surgery on his back Aug 2016.

His folks now live in Cape Coral.  One of these days when we come down to visit them, you and I will have to meet up for a cup of coffee or something.

Hope things are getting better with your family, I know it is rough when your parents get ill.   I have lost both of my parents.

Hi Lisa, My problem is that I deleted the email they sent for the block. I had to get my email at the library cuz of internet change at home the print out came out black and white. I deleted it after I printed it not knowing the print out would be black and white. I've collected everything else in color. And because it is in several shades of red I'd like to have the pattern in color. When they send the emails Debbie's name is included in the address. I thought I had put her address in my address folder, but I only have the Piecing the past address that Elizabeth said she gets her blocks from. I can't find it there. Thanks for any help you can give me.

sorry that time not there for translucent winged dragonfly. i have fabric and a multi colored gauze for wings of dragonfly wall quilt i am planning. on the broderi perse tho, one of my favorite forms of applique, i thought it was french in origin ...nope! thought to be from india per wikipedia ...

Broderie perse (French for "Persian embroidery") is a style of appliqué embroidery which uses printed elements to create a scene on the background fabric. It was most popular in Europe in the 17th century, and probably travelled from India, as there are some earlier findings there. The technique could be considered an early form of puzzle piecing.

Broderie perse can be done with any printed fabric on any ground, but it originally was worked with Chintz type fabrics. Chintz typically has clearly defined, separated motifs, which were cut out and invisibly applied onto the ground fabric. The typical intention was to create a scene from the motifs, but the decoration could also be random. The resulting fabric was often made into bedspreads.....
