Halloween Quilt

This was a block of the month quilt . I bought the pattern and used my own fabrics. It has faces that are all machine appliqued. I thought I would never finish it.

Hi Ellen,I see we share in the fun of wee people's quilts. I love the humour in your spider with an umbrella! I wish I'd had a digital camera earlier, so many of my quilts have gone far and wide.We have a device that puts slides on computor, but most were reg. film shots, and we lost the album in a move. One of my favourite techniqus is to include the interaction of the child, ie; flap (barn door) revealing horse, and tiny toy stuffed duckling tucked into pocket of mama duck's wing. Ellen, to be honest, I haven't entered any of my quilts in any shows, I don't belong to any of the quilting guilds in town, probably because most of the other people that I see and talk to in the quilt store here are kind of snobbish and think they are above others, I really don't like that. I may be a little hard on my own work too, I know where I have messed up and although the quilts are still really nice, I just don't think they would win a prize at a show with the kind of computation I would have here in town. I'm still learning.

Yes, I am inspired by where I live when I make my Woodland quilts. I don't have pictures of all of them, wish I did, but I love to put Alaskan animals, birds, mountains and glaciers on them. I have even put the Northern Lights on one.

Thank you Ellen, you do some pretty nice work yourself. I am so excited about this sight and meeting and learning and being inspired by others that love to quilt.

I live in Juneau, Alaska and this is what I see when I walk out my door at home every day, what does it look like where you live? Kathy

Welcome Quilter Friend!

Just wanted to pop in to say “hello” and introduce myself. I’m Linda Hubalek, fellow quilter and author from Kansas. Books about pioneer women are my specialty, with a cooking or a quilting theme mixed into each historical fiction series.

My Trail of Thread historical fiction book series, written in the form of letters sent back home, describes my ancestors’ wagon trail journey and homesteading in Kansas. Each book mentions twelve old-time quilt patterns, and I put drawings of them in the back of the books.

So if you like to read—besides quilting—please enjoy my blog and book excerpts on my website. Besides printed as paperbacks, my ten books are also available for your Kindle or Nook. (Good choice for Christmas gifts, or yourself, because the ebooks are on sale now!)

I have about a dozen quilts made by my great grandmother, (that we used all the time when I was a kid) so I’m into antique quilts and patterns. What kind of quilts and patterns do you like to work with?

Have a blessed Thanksgiving weekend!

Linda Hubalek

Bleeding Heart of Hope

Posted on November 29, 2011 at 7:25am 14 Comments

I am new to this group and loving it! Just want to share my story about my quilt " Bleeding Heart of Hope". I entered a contest that was called " Around the World". We were given the pattern of large blocks that go around. You were told to embellish . I made my quilt using off white blocks so I could put something on top of it and it would stand out. I made green bias strips and drew a heart wreath which I applied the green bias to , sewing each strip down and intertwining them. I put…
