Yesterday, we asked a simple question on the AQS Facebook page, and were amazed and amused at the response. We asked:

What goes on around you while quilting?

There were a lot of responses, and we thought it would be fun to share them with you. You can read all the answers, and add your own at the American Quilter's Society Facebook Page.

Our fans posted a lot, so we've boiled them down for you.

The most common activity can be summarized as ... "What? I'm in my own world, quilting!"

After that, most quilters have either music or the television running while they are quilting. I wonder if there is a favorite kind of music quilters love to listen to. Maybe that's the next question!

And it seems like pets are far more involved than children in quilting, or trying to stop quilting :-)

The crowd-favorite answer came from Monica Nauert

my butler is constantly pestering me to have tea and cookies, Ryan Reynolds keeps calling (the guy is a huge stalker), my children are always asking what they can do to make my life easier, and my husband is always trying to slip his credit card under my nose. But ALL I want to do is quilt. Please.

Another fun response came from Julie Ramech

WHAT? I can't hear you, I'm quilting!

What a fun bunch of answers. Now, it's your turn.

What happens around you while you quilt?

I actually cleaned off my sewing table and straightened up, sort of, my sewing area---had to, the 9 yr old needed room to put her sewing machine so she could sew a fleece lap blanket for her best friend......

A huge glorious mess! And I've been asked how I work in that mess and I shrug and say I do. But I do listen to music or watch DVD's of my favorite shows/movies, whatever my mood points me towards, sometimes it's the music or the show that gets me into the sewing room so I can get my quilt groove on.

"Blue skudoo you can too..." (The Blue's Clues puppy jumps into a picture on the wall) right into a Norman Rockwell painting. It's a perfect world! Sure the sky is falling but who cares!

I don't use facebook, so I'm putting my answer here.  I'm in my sewing room with peace and quiet.  My beagle is outside the room on her bed watching me and waiting for me to come out of there.  I've tried listening to music, but I work best when it's quiet.  I'll even put in earplugs if necessary.

What happens while I am quilting? Suddenly I am the most popular person on the DH leaves me alone for the most part--he knows this is my chill out time, but the kids and the phone just won't stop......and the kids--18,17,9--look so funny at me when I give them "that look"......usually the tv is on and I have my mp3 glued to my ears to drown out those around me.....everything from classic rock to 80's pop, country, classical, contemporary Christian, Dr. Demento classics........
