I decided to learn machine quilting this year.  Have a book and bought an online course off Craftsy.com.  I began by reading the part of the book about preparing the sandwich.  I was already doing several things wrong even with my hand quilting.  I changed the batting I was using, made sure i ironed everything well including the batting, and spent a good portion of the afternoon making the sandwich.  The book said to pin every 4 inches. Had to get more safety pins but the result was worth it. I didn't get any puckers on the front or back!!!!!  I wish my stitch in the ditch was as perfect...I will get better!  After I bind it tomorrow I will post it.

It sounds like you are doing much better than me with the new mid-arm. Looking forward to seeing it.

are you quilting on a regulary sewing machine or a longarm??   anything bigger than a baby quilt and I make a mess of it on a regular sewing machine.   I think a lot of my problem is that I am too impatient, I don't pin well enough.   Look forward to seeing your finished quilt.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your finished quilt. I'm trying to learn to quilt my tops as well, but have so much to learn. I've also gotten a Craftsy class. They are very helpful. Good luck with your binding!
