Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch

The afternoon was very pleasant and a surprise because Dave and Roger came to my home and spent the afternoon with me. I can't remember the last time I've had such a relaxing afternoon. They loved Indy and I think Indy loved them because he didn't growl and bark at them. Dave asked to lay down for half an hour. So Roger asked to see my gardens and Indy needed out anyway. We walked around for a while and Roger liked my Secret Garden. We then went back into the house and I sat and started sewing a stack of pillows closed, while Roger played his guitar. Indy curled up and went to sleep. Dave came out of the guest room and started singing along to Roger's playing. What a way to spend an afternoon!!!
After having some freshly made apple pie that I made that morning, the guys left for the church. I then changed clothes since it was about time for Pat to pick me up and I got Indy ready to go. But what a surprise awaited.
Pat came in and started yelling that she was not going to take Indy to church and have him in the Sanctuary. It was no place for a dog. By rights I should have called the police because Indy is a service dog. I needed him there with me. I had about a 5 minute discussion with Pastor instead and told him if Indy can't come I was staying home. Pastor asked me to reconsider. I told him I'd come and leave Indy home but I was livid because it was against the law not to allow him access to be with me.
I cried throughout the whole evening, but did manage to put a smile on my face when talking to folks about the quilts. I heard a lot of descriptive words such as....works of art, exquisite, exceptional, creative, beautiful. Dave has decided that some will be used as wall hangings.
The concert was wonderful as always. I've lost track how many times I've seen these 2 guys in concert and I never tire of them. I have a few of their CDs too. I would have loved to buy Dave's song book, "Best of the Best". So many churches use his songbook for some of their contemporary services. I just love the songs in it.
Dave doesn't like photos during the concert. But here are photos of the quilt display and one photo of the guys getting ready to start.

Glad l looked back to find this, as l was away & missed it...but l was thinking of you ,Linda. Most "healthy" people wouldn't have a clue as to what these quilts cost you in life energy, or understand what drives you to continue when your eyes hurt and your body aches.
As far as the dog issue goes, l guess it's mostly ignorance. Except those for the blind, service dogs for other disabilities are not known well enough. However, l'm sure there were enough people around you to help you out with any problem you may have encountered. Educating the public about service dogs is the only way to keep them from confusing them as pets. Does lndy have a special collar or vest to distinguish his rank? I know tgere are families here who train work dogs, and while in public, they wear a special vest. That usually gets folks asking about them...a conversation openner resulting in an opportunity to teach peoole about tge dogs' tasks, and the benefit they give to their disabled owners.
I can't imagine God being concerned about one of his creatures being in church. Only humans would think a dog not worthy, I'm sure God would have welcomed Indy. And yes, you had every legal right to take him w/you where ever you go since he is a service dog.
Linda... so sorry to hear about Indy not being allowed to come with you. Glad you were able to go anyway and see the concert. The quilts are beautiful, you did an amazing job. The retreat center is so blessed to be getting them.
