Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
For a guild to raise monies for charity, putting on an actual quilt show can be too expensive for the return. The Sisters of Leesburg in Fla. has, for the past 15 years put on their "La di dah" luncheon instead. This year's theme was " Diamonds are Forever, and so are quilters". For the $25. ticket ( with possible door prize ), a guest is treated not only to a fabulous lunch at tables bedecked with quilts and small favors, but also to a fashion show of items & clothing made by guild members, a silent auction, on items such as a travelling luggage tote for sewing machines, painted chairs , hand painted glassware, and quilt kits, all donated .This year over 50 gift baskets were donated , mostly sewing related items, for the basket bonanza... a fun draw where 6 tickets are purchased for $5 and you tear off half of a ticket, and place it in the container next to the basket you hope to win. A crafty needles sales area sold lovely little quilty pieces, like table runners, pot holders, purses etc.and YLI threads was also a vendor. There was a 50/50 draw. also a mini quilt show of small quilts challenging members to depict the diamonds theme (everything from Sunbonnets playing baseball to quilts with lots of bling!) where guests chose the winner by voting ballot. The lovely Diamond Cathedral Window draw quilt( for which tickets had been sold at various events in the community throughout the year raising $6,000 ! ) was on display., and at the end , the tickets, in a large turning drum were tumbled and the winning ticket drawn. Finally, the quilt for the next year's event was revealed. The doors opened at 10;30, the lunch was served at 12, and the grand finale draw was at 2 pm. A wonderful way to spend the day with friends!
