thank you for the encouraging words AQS. so many wonderful friendships have been made & more will be made via this forum. My Quilt Place has become a wonderful source of quilt inspiration, a place to view innovative as well as traditional creations representative of the quilting arts. w increasing spam issues i have wondered if safe to play here anymore, but then think's worth the risk! i would miss my friends, their projects, the humor & my morning cuppa read! :)) thank you for the comment and news that help is galloping in to rescue us from harm!

Hi - Just wanted to let you know that AQS is working today to tighten up security on MQP. We hope that will cure a lot of the issues mentioned here. About the avatar - it is what you get by default when a person does not upload a photo for a personal avatar. Thanks to all of you for being on MQP - it's a great communication tool and you can be assured that we'll do our best to get the "bad guys" out of here!

We are lucky to have this site available to exchange ideas and have some fun. American Quilter's Soc. has gone to a lot of trouble to make this as safe & clean as possible. The only way they can cover the costs involved w/management & bandwidth ( not cheap) is through their own advertisers' revenue. So if WE"RE annoyed, just think of how the  paying advertisers feel! So you can bet your boots they're doing their best to find a way to prevent it.

Yep, Vickie, someone leaves the back door open, and they all blow in!

I have the AQS avatar and I am a member. I have tried repeatedly in the last week to change it to a photo (any photo!) and keep getting an error message. I don't think it has anything to do with the pics because they post to my page just fine. I have noticed the crazies start around midnight and usually come in large groups.

i agree w all of you. last couple months have gotten very very bad. and as far as tightening admissions... i agree, but it seems that they could vette admission requests w/o digging for more personal info. has anyone noticed that all the spammers have the AQS avatar? are they hacking AQS site. are they just snipping and pasting the AQS avatar when they launch their spam attacks? if so, maybe the site could set up a trap to block any posters who use the AQS avatar but are'nt AQS members? i am not a AQS member. i don't fb either. seems that if there is the tech support to run all the sites and media venue that AQS does, they should have the tech to filter the spam out better. IMHO

I agree Riana....don't want to give personal info either.  Glad someone keeps cleaning it up.  I really like this site even with all the adds :)  Thanks for the explanation,,,

You will notice that these come along during the night ( in north american continent) and are cleaned up by site managers by day. Aside from hiring 3 times the staff...what else can they do? Closing the site at night would curtail access /involvement of our global quilters and those who work on shifts in our time areas . Some sites have a screening process that limits the enrollment, but a lot of personal info must be given them. l for one, don't care to give that.

Welcome Quilters! is brought to you entirely free as a service of the American Quilter's Society. We hope you enjoy meeting one another and sharing your experience and expertise. Enjoy!
