Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
Pilling the Cat
1. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth.
Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.
2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa.
Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.
3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.
4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm,…
May my struggles and hardships help others, lol.
1. High quality, high thread count muslin is a must.
2. This is an excellent place to use those beautiful but thin fabrics that have crept into your stash...they'll be backed and tacked down by several layers of that muslin.
3. I used to find ironing soothing, now I know how long it takes for steam burns to heal.
4. I once considered learning something about origami, I'm over it.
5. Reminding yourself…Continue
So, I finally drew a pattern on a quilt and quilted it...I am very bad at following curvy lines with that little round hopping foot. But the quilt is done and it will keep a child on the reservation warm.
So..now I"m trying to follow straight lines. My first day of doing this proved I'm much worse at following a seam line than I was at following a curving line.
Today I tried again.. my poor Irish quilt. I have to say I'm infinitely better now than I was at the start.. which…Continue
I know some of my fellow quilters suffer with this illness or know someone close to them who does. The CFIDS association of America is asking for our help with an upcoming FDA workshop. It's a five-ten minute survey and it will be a great help, here is the link... https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/pt-focused-survey ..
I'm posting this for my mother, I'm not telling her I'm posting it.
My mom has spent the last...15+ years working with a group out west called American Indian Services as a co-chair. They do a LOT of charity work for the people on the reservations in the southwest, providing supplies, scholarships, food, anything that's desperately needed.
Her current project and the one that has kept her busy the last few years is the Hopi reservation in AZ. This reservation is one of the…Continue
Have you ever made a mistake that was so massively obvious, that you totally missed it until it was way too late and your only options were..start over or spend a day unpicking?
Well, today is my lucky day, I finally saw the mistake.
I've been working on this blue and white double wedding ring..of which I have made several in the past, so you'd think I'd have it down by now. WRONG!
I came downstairs today, all ready to put all the round blocks together, they were laid…Continue
I recommend using the restroom before reading... it will take a few moments to read... you will laugh til you cry... also it has nothing to do with quilting... enjoy! :)
WARNING THIS IS EXTREMELY GRAPHIC AND VERY FUNNY! YOU MIGHT NEED A BATHROOM AFTER READING THIS AND SOME TISSUES WHILE READING! I ALMOST PEED MY PANTS!! I DO NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR THIS STORY I FOUND IT ON GOOGLE.
My night began as any other normal weeknight.
I have to say, since I've been home, I feel completely out of sync with everything going on here. It doesn't help that I've been sleeping my life away the last few weeks. I haven't done a heck of a lot, but my house is getting cleaner and a little more organized, it's one of my New Year's Resolutions, get everything a place and put it there, what doesn't have a place, get rid of it. Hopefully come the end of the year, my house will have stayed clean for some time, all the excess baggage will…Continue
I am so glad to be home! I was supposed to be gone another week, but between storms and bratty nieces and too much shopping.. it was time to come on home. For those who don't know.. my sister's husband passed from esophogeal cancer in October, so I went out for Thanksgiving and to help my sister get her house ready to sell and help her find a new house and pack and clean and let her rant and rave and cry about all the things the deceased had or hadn't done while he was alive. The biggest…Continue
I feel like Charlie Brown's mother..blah blah blah.. Since I got home from my sister's house I have not been into my sewing room once. I don't even want to look at fabric. This is beginning to look like a serious slump. I couldn't even get excited by the Hancock's sale ad that came in my email today.. I went to look but blahhhhh. At this rate, I'm gonna forget how to sew. I finished the binding on a quilt that had been waiting and I have been sort of half heartedly working on finishing up a…Continue
It's so good to be home. Not that I told any of you I was leaving, lol. My sister's husband passed away last week from esophageal cancer. I haven't seen her in several years but some things you just can't let your siblings deal with alone. She was commenting on how his family never seemed to think she was good enough for him and I had to laugh..I never thought he was good enough for her..and he proved it by not having life insurance on their new house and vehicles, nor giving her the…Continue
Today I went to an auction. I don't get to them very often anymore but I really wanted to go to this one. I spent a small fortune and of course ended up with dozens of items I didn't actually want so I could get the few things I did...I believe this is what prompted the beginning of ebay, etsy, yardseller and all the rest. Anyway.. I made one really awesome purchase.…Continue
Ok. I finished destroying the first sacrifice to the machine and thought I had a fairly decent command of the darn thing.
I was wrong.
I'm starting to think this machine is one of my life trials.. a key test for my place in heaven.
I got all nervously excited to start the first non-test-like quilt this morning. I got it all situated on the rails. I wound the bobbins. I threaded the machine and double checked the rails and bungees. I started sewing....I forgot to put the…Continue
Ok, so I admit the last few days I've been avoiding the quilting machine. I finished up two quilt tops that were half done and since the only ones remaining to work on I am more studiously ignoring than the quilt machine...off to the quilting room I went.
I stared at it for awhile, then I replaced the broken needle, double checked the bobbin, put a battery in the little laser dealie and started sewing...and immediately wound up a small truckload of thread. So I fixed that, re-threaded…Continue
So, as those of you who occasionally read my blogs know, I got a new Grace frame with a new Juki machine. Today was the trial run. I attached the cloth leaders (ouch the tips of my fingers are still sore from doing that). I turned on the machine and immediately broke the little piece that threads it for you. I have some serious talent, truly. I wound bobbins, I threaded the machine.. incorrectly the first two times then I figured out why it kept breaking. I attached a cute little baby quilt…Continue
So, yayyyyyyyy.. my grace frame arrived today, the machine to put in it will be here tomorrow, so YAYYYYY!
Unfortunately I have been sewing with the new sewing machine.. gotta say, I'm still in love, that could change dramatically the first time it messes up.. I've finished up three quilts since it arrived. I stupidly volunteered to put in a booth with quilts for sale for local humane society, I have no idea what I was thinking.. roughly 30 days to get as many quilts done as…
Well ladies, tragedy has struck my household once again.. this morning my adorable little Janome threw a hiss fit, jammed up a needle and now refuses to sew without snagging the threads of any fabric I put under it. It's old and inexpensive, so not worth trying to fix beyond the cleaning etc that I already tried.. so, R.I.P my little Janome.. your replacement will be arriving soon.
In the meantime, I guess I'll set up a corner for projects I want to do and have the fabric for so I can…Continue
I'm in a quilting slump, I don't want to finish this double wedding ring that I'd get paid for if I finished it, lol. I don't want to work on the awesome looking dragon/hurricane themed t shirt quilt that's at least half done and all laid out really, lol. I don't want to finish quilting the scrap quilt for my niece.. I actually don't want anything to do with my sewing room right now.. I went down there Monday for a bit, but I just couldn't get into it. I hate times like this.. what do the…Continue
So a couple weeks ago, I got this email from Hancocks welcoming me as one of their customers (we don't have one in Columbia but I know where they are in St. Louis, lol.).. I don't recall why they sent it but they did.. and included in that little email was a code for free shipping. Free shipping!!! I hate paying s&h, it jacks up the price of my fabric entirely too much.
Anyway, I did nothing with the email for several days, I was patient, I almost deleted it, I did my best to…Continue
I have to say, I may have one of the greatest husbands ever. Yes, I know I speak of my boyfriend often.. the quick explanation.. I've been separated from the husband Jack for around four years, he lives in Idaho, I live in Missouri.. a bit after the separation I met Tony the boyfriend. Jack doesn't want a divorce, I don't ever want to get married again.. perhaps one day one of us will change our mind and we'll get divorced, in the meantime we're on friendly terms and we each live our…Continue
