Words of wisdom

My daughter writes a blog Monday thru Thursday. It is about a lot of different things, her family, job, friends, and the focus of the blog : books. But today she wrote about seeing a halo around the moon about 5 this morning, but when she and her dog left for their morning walk, the sun was starting to come up and the halo was not visible. It reminded her of a line from the movie, Ferris Beuller. Thought I would share with all of you. It gave me pause for thought. "Life moves pretty fast. You… Continue

Quilts and Granddaughters

I have started a quilt for my second oldest granddaughter. She graduates from High School in a few weeks and has been accepted at UT (Knoxville). Her older sister (by 14 months) is just finishing her freshman year at the University of Alabama.(Roll Tide - LOL) Anyway, I made the older one a quilt for her dorm room and now have started one for the UT student to be.  I'm making this very colorful, and of course it will have some TN orange in it. lolol.  A local quilt shop owner (just went out…

My Mystery Quilt Project

As promised, here is the mystery quilt that I finished this Winter. It was a project with our local guild, Country Patchers of Crestview, FL. I Made the '9 patch edge quilt' with leftover fabric from this quilt. Which do you like better? I vote for the '9 patch edge'.…

What I have done this past Winter

Well I finally have 2 quilts finished. I am so proud that I finished the 'circle' quilt. I am going to try to post some pics of it and also a quilt that I made using some fabric from the mystery quilt that our guild did this past year. I made it because I had simply bought too much fabric. I think it turned out really nice and I like it better than the 'mystery'. Will get a picture of that one at a later date. The circle quilt was made from Oriental fabrics. When I first joined MQP last…

Mystery quilt

I have finished the mystery quilt and am quite happy with it. I plan on giving it to our best friends who were our Best Man and Maid of Honor. They celebrate their 50th anniversary in July. Ours is this month. Congratulations to all of us for beating the odds. LOL

Christmas is coming, ready or not!

It has been a while since I have added anything to the 'blog" posts, so while I take a rest from all the 'things' that are happening around here, thought I'd give an update. Both our son and daughter with families in tow are coming for Christmas. Thank goodness, they are not all coming at once or we would be hanging some from the doorways as my Grandma used to threaten to do to her grandchildren. LOL The daughter and family arrive on the 22nd with a departure date of the 26th. The son and…

Friendship

This past week we have been fortunate to have friends from Northern Illinois visit us. She and I have been BFF's since the age of 12. Since high school graduation we have never lived near each other, but distance has not dulled the friendship. When we are together time disappears and it is like we just saw each other.( Thank goodness for computers and cell phone. lol) She and her husband were high school sweethearts and will celebrate 52 years of marriage this December. She and I are so…

New look for my sewing room

The remodeling is almost complete. Yay. I just love the new wood floors. My sewing room looks so good that I have posted a picture on my MQP  blog. Now I just need to find some time to get in there and finish my Asian fabric quilt. lolol

Remodeling makes for No Quilting

I am having new flooring put in our house. Wood floors in the LR, DR,K, and my sewing room. Had to empty out my sewing room and I have everything stacked up in the guest bedroom. I knew I had a lot of 'stuff' and 'stash', but seeing it unorganized and out of the closet really makes me think that I should not be buying more fabric for a while. LOL

Also for those who have been following my project regarding the Asian fabrics that I purchased a few months ago: I have all the blocks done…

Update

I have started my Asian fabric quilt. Have 15 quarters done and it is going well.  I was on a roll today, then got a request to make a quilt (top only) for a young lady who does handylady things for me. This week she did some plumbing. So glad we were introduced to her. Anyway, she brought a lap-size quilt that she and her husband just love. It is a modified Courthouse- steps pattern and made with a scrappy look in all medium tones. She asked if I'd make a king-size for her. She will have it…

Update on Asian Fabric Quilt

After my usual 2 1/2 cups of coffee this a.m. and making breakfast, I fully intended to start on this quilt. I have my templates made and the fabric is ready to go. So, there I sat at the sewing machine and just couldn't bring myself to begin tracing around templates and cutting out fabric. I just hate templates! I love this pattern and it will make an awesome quilt, but I HATE using templates. My first experience with them was for the Giant Dahlia quilt. I bought the templates from Marti…

Foldy Stuff

If you have never heard of the "foldy stuff" method, google "Donna Poster". This is a technique she came up with to make pineapple and log cabin blocks. She probably has more patterns than those two, but they are the ones I purchased. It is a simple and fun method and no need for accurate 1/4 inch seams - very forgiving method. I would say especially good for beginning quilters.

Family, Grandchildren, and Quilts

Today our son and his family left our area for their new home . He recently retired after 22 years in the Air Force. Needless to say, we are so very proud of him.  He has accepted a job with a company in another state, so this is move number 6 for his family. His eldest child commented that she has moved every 3 years of her life. I told her that hopefully this will be the last until she goes to college. It seems like it wasn't too long ago when we were getting our son ready for college. My…

A finished quilt

A few years ago I purchased the Jinny Beyer kit for "Moonglow". She gave directions and patterns for template or paper piecing. The directions said if all blocks were paper pieced, then additional fabric should be purchased. HA. I didn't read that till 2 years after I bought the kit. Anyway, I proceeded and paper-pieced all of the star blocks and it did come out beautifully. To my joy I had lots of leftover fabric. I decided that I am a very thrifty paper-piecer. LOL So, I took all those…

New Fabric Purchase

I went to our local quilt shop this morning. They sent an e-mail that they were having a 30% off sale on all Moda. My hubby told me that I better rush right over because it would all be gone by Saturday.  Of course, I took him up on the advice and got some beautiful fabric. I have no idea what I will make. I still haven't started the Asian Fabric quilt. One thing that is a fact  is that good fabric doesn't spoil : it will still be in my quilt room when I finally decide what to do with it.…

Asian Fabrics

I recently bought some Asian themed fabrics and need some suggestions on a good block pattern to use. Does anyone out there have an idea?
