Craft Fair

I've got a lot to learn, but I really had a lot of fun and some sales at my first official craft fair.  I know that I'll redesign my display. I wish this picture showed my table more throughly. I'm planning to participate in more fairs.

I meet a lot of nice people, both customers and vendors. The lady selling beside my gave me a list of local shows that I can contact and book future fairs.

More fun to be had.craft fair…

Scrap Therapy

I just took a great book out of the library the other day.  It's a Scrap Therapy book by Joan Ford called Cut the Scraps! There are some great tips for organizing your stash and beautiful patterns for turning left over fabrics into new, warm, works of art! I personally can't wait to make "Something Fishy" and "Bloomin Steps".

Need value for quilt donated to charity

I have a quilt (soon to be finished) that I plan to donate to a local charity for their auction or whatever they would choose to do with it.  It is queen size, embroidered, pieced and quilted.  Where do you suggest that I look to get reasonable average pricing to substantiate a value for my taxes?

Season of sewing

It seems that I used to look forward to creating hand made gifts this time of year when the weather would drive me indoors to get warm.  It seems as though I now look forward to working on projects that have been waiting for me to make time for them.  Spending the time creatively is a gift I give myself, for when I am creating from the heart, life takes on new meaning and rewards are so much more meaningful.  I do my best, but the stitches don't have to be perfect, for neither am I, to make…

Bleeding Heart of Hope

I am new to this group and loving it! Just want to share my story about my quilt " Bleeding Heart of Hope". I entered a contest that was called " Around the World". We were given the pattern of large blocks that go around. You were told to embellish . I made my quilt using off white blocks so I could put something on top of it and it would stand out. I made green bias strips and drew a heart wreath which I applied the green bias to , sewing each strip down and intertwining them. I put…

Rainy Cooler Day

OK this is the weather I have been waiting for. Cold, rain and I am all snug inside my new sewing room, quilting and looking out. It is everything I was waiting for. What a peaceful day.
Today I have decided to learn more about ruler work on the longarm. I am doing some quilting in the ditch and border work. Challenging but also worthwhile. I like how it looks. It is just not as easy as they make it look in all the videos.

The Pioneer’s Cyber Monday Sales

While we’re ordering our holiday gifts online today because of Cyber Monday sales, I can’t help but think of the contrast of now, versus 150 years ago, when Kansas was being homesteaded by pioneers of several different nationalities.

Think how simple and thankful the pioneers were for their holidays and gift giving. When you read the diary entries…

Our Family's Thanksgiving Table

As we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, my mind wanders back to the simple Thanksgiving days of my youth—50+years ago—when my mom, grandma, or aunts hosted the noon meal. Each year we rotated to whose house we would go to, and each holds special memories.

Various tables were pushed together so we could all sit and pass the multiple platters and bowls of steaming food in a continuous circle.

We enjoyed the traditional foods of turkey, dressing and mashed…
