Well, tomorrow is October first and the year is quickly drawing to a close. I have a heightened sense of things needing to get done. This morning at breakfast, I told my dear, sweet husband that things may get a little crazy on the quilt side of life these next two months to which he replied: "You mean crazier than they are now? I thought they were pretty crazy already!" Nevertheless, I told him, I appreciated his support.
Keeping this in mind, I have made out the…Continue
I have been creating a wall hanging for my bathroom. I intend to paint the walls a medium shade of lavender and thought it would be nice to make a wall hanging to compliment it. I had a stack of old shirts my husband used to wear to work, but are too small for him. The colors are coral, yellow, sky blue, turquoise, lavender, peach, & light green. I found four patterns for pinwheels that are a little more complicated and decided to make the center of the wall hanging out of these,…Continue

My husband has been away for the past two weeks, doing some research in Weimar, Germany so I have been using this time to get as many of the Christmas quilts done as I humanly can. This has been my daily routine: Quilt, go to work, eat, quilt, sleep, quilt, repeat.
I am proud to note that I did not play hooky from work to stay home and quilt, not even one day, although I was very tempted this morning. And I have been very productive. The day he left, I had six quilts quilted. As of…Continue
I just watched a short film on the quilt makers of Cairo> I am so inspired how wonderful. and they applique on canvas. they are spectacular. It makes you want to quilt more but oh where oh where do we find the time to do all the quilts in our heads?

Today I began piecing a bear paw. She will end up as a queen size. It is colonial Williamsburg fabric I purchased years ago a Hancocks of Paducah. I had cut the pieces last year and got busy with the Paradise Chili Co. banner. Speaking of the banner, I just need a break from it. Brain freeze on creativity! Next week I will work on it again. For now, its bear paw time! Happy quilting to everyone. Work on what makes you happy. Nancy Heinrich
My daughter's delicious home-made lasagna for dinner today. The seven of us pretty much wiped out a huge pan of it. Now home again. Ready for my feet up, a cup of good hot tea, and the last couple chapters of the book I've been reading. Tomorrow back to reality, but today, sublime.

We made it home from vacation on Tuesday after a awful plane ride from Atlantic City Airport to Fort Lauderdale. The flight attendant dropped a hot, hot, hot cup of coffee on a passenger a few rows behind us. She began screaming and everyone on the plane thought the worst was happening! Then, we circled the airport due to a bad thunderstorm. When we finally landed, the tarmac was flooded. It was like landing on a lake! Boy am I glad to be home. So are my husband and Sandy the cat. It has…Continue
Can't say I've thought much about Ironman, and/or his need for a quilt.
My grandson, Blane, not only thought about it, but he also did something about it. I received this today - his first e-mail to me, with help from his mommy, I suspect. He's almost 6. He and Ironman were looking for something to do on "their" sick day - so quilting came to mind. (Both of Blane's grandmas are quilters - it was sent to both of us!)
"Grandma, I thought you would like the quilt I made…Continue
It has been a busy summer since I last wrote in June. After returning from Texas, July was full of quilting on the Christmas project. By the end of the month I had five quilts completely finished (or so I thought). August brought lots of company - Daughter Jamie with hubby Jeff and our grandson Wyatt from August 1 - 12, a visit that took place at our house, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and in Tacoma Park, Maryland and my Mom from California, a visit that also took us to West Virginia for…Continue

Since last years quest to finish up UFOs, it left me with around 30 or so at the beginning of this year. I have since then finished up quite a few more. I do have around 10 to 12 left, we have them hidden in corners still. With that said, my next adventure has been to do a whole cloth quilt. Now those are a challenge. I am to design it and quilt it using only rulers and stencils, no patterns or copying any other wholecloth quilt. As one would notice, drawing is not an easy task. Even…Continue
I love my sewing room. It's just a small, cluttered out-of-the-way room downstairs, but it's mine. I never have to worry about picking up anything if I don't want to, I don't have to worry about anyone seeing the clutter, I can just shut the door. It's tiny, and it's cramped, but I love it. I can sit in the rocker and contemplate what I've been working on, or I can sew, play w/fabric, or even watch a movie on the DVD player. It's perfect and I am blessed to have this room.
Just returned from a workshop by Page Johnson. She was a very good presenter with a wealth of information that challenges you to get out of your box and try new things. Hope I can put her ideas to use in my own quilts and those of my customers. It's always a good time when our group of long arm quilters get together - they never fail to get me in a good place and bring balance into an otherwise too busy world.
