Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
I have recently decided to take my sewing/crafting/quilting public and let others know about it and share my talents. I thought it would be a good way to make some extra money in this time and place while I stay home with my kids to help out with the grocery bill (since gas keeps going up and that drives the price of groceries up too). As much as I think that stay at home mom's should get a tax credit for that, I know it will never happen, so this is my way to contribute to my family and…Continue
One of the four projects I am currently working on is a beautiful Garndmother's Fan pattern made entirely of DH's old wool suits. I went to Goodwill and bought two other wool skirts for color. Anyway, DH requested this quilt when he saw it at the 2012 Paducah Quilt Show on display. I took a picture of it, cut up some old wool jackets/pants, and it's now coming to life on my dining room table. So it's looking so good I was thinking of entering it in our local county fair. It…Continue
Whoa! It's been a busy summer so far! I've been gone more than I've been home, so now I'm playing catch up with everything. Have 1 quilt block to make for the last class I missed and 1 just finished for the class before that. It was Susanna and I had trouble with it for some reason. Had to redo the center. Still not terribly excited about it--it's not precise enough to suit me. May make another one later if I have enough fabric left after the rest of the blocks are finished. Will post photos…Continue
YES! It is done (the quilt top)!
I am absolutely in love with this quilt, even though matching those rows was the most challenging thing I have done so far in quilting.
The back will be steel grey with strips of pink, broken up with patches of these squares - hard to explain, I will just have to post a picture when I get it done. I am sure if she doesn't like it (she will, though) her mama will be glad to have it to snuggle in this winter!
I've been consumed with my son's graduation from Life University, Marietta GA. He's now a doctor of chiropractic! A quick trip to GA for his graduation in June, including a pizza party for his peers, and now we will have a dinner party here in Michigan with relatives and close friends, followed by a reception for his peers he grew up with in MI.
In the meantime, I've been frantically trying to find a few minutes here and there to attach the binding to his quilt that I made in honor…Continue
Actually, it's been finished since May and is at Vickie's now, waiting to be quilted. Here's how the top turned out:
Well, that's sideways, but it will do. I changed out those deeper colored filler blocks and am very, VERY, happy I did! (See earlier posts.)
The backing is one big piece of fabric…Continue

Can't wait to post pictures
I recently got a cute, little black kitten from my daughter. Her name is Beatrix and I just love her! But whenever I try to do some hand quilting, which is what I mostly do, she tortures me...and my threads. What is it about cat's and quilting? My other cat, Jinx thinks she has to be sitting on whatever I'm working on, which is fine because she just sits there. Regarding Jinx, her just "sitting there" is quite unusual. She's normally outside hunting or inside being aloof....and she takes…Continue
It is a start to an eventual brick and mortar shop. I am in the process of getting everything set-up. Even getting my quilt tops and table runners ready to go. Getting set-up with Moda fabrics for Jelly rolls, and Cozy Quilts for their strip quilt patterns. I am so excited. Have always wanted a quilt shop, and this is a way to get started. I know there is a lot of competition on Ebay, but I have healthy competition on Ebay with my Embroidery Brand as well. I am keeping the 2 seperate. So we…Continue
Big storm Wednesday night, but it surely cleared the air, the humidity is blessedly low finally, the temperature is perfect and the sky is blue. What more could anyone ask for??
I look at all the new sewing machines and I drool, but I resist. I have a perfectly good machine that does all I need It to do. And since I'm retired now and on a fixed income I need to watch my spending. But I certainly do drool a lot.
I thank God that I have quilting to keep me busy. If I…Continue
I've been quilting a couple of years and am starting to get the hang of it. I had always wanted to quilt, but until I had a room I could dedicate to quilting, it just didn't make sense. And then there is my tendency to improvise dangerously...I was worried about accuracy. But armed with my rotary cutter and a quarter inch foot I am not firmly on my way. In the past two years I have made ten or twelve quilts, have acquired three machines for myself and one for my granddaughter and have…Continue
I welcomed my new baby home last friday (A Bernina 440 QE). Yes I finally have her. The woman I bought my 180 E on ebay from knew I was wanting one. She called me and asked if I wanted to trade the 180 e with the embroider machine she had sold me for the bernina 440qe with the stitch regulator and walking foot she just acquired. It was no question (yes). She sent it to me and I got it Friday. I have played with her and love her. The machine is newer so much quieter. Stitch regulator…Continue

Why do I put off changing the blade in my rotary cutter? I hack, I go over the same bit of fabric a dozen times, I whine and complain, and Finally change the blade in the cutter. It's an AHHHH moment, that first cut after the blade is new. One swish down the fabric and all cut, no unsevered threads tugging at the fabric. And every time I tell myself I will change the blade sooner next time. I will not put myself through that whole dull blade business again. And every time the…Continue
Never done a blog post. Not sure how it works. Here goes. Just getting over a rash from a euphorbia. Not very nice thing, needed p*********** to get rid of it. This plant has to be gone from my yard. Too bad, I really like the way it looks.Continue
Have not received any BOM to download since block 2. Possibly my email was one lost. Please reinstate it for me - firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks and really enjoying this pattern.
My husband is the gardener and he has created many flower beds. His current passion is hardy geraniums while mine is daylilies and hostas. So a few years ago, when I first retired, my husband (in his infinite wisdom) decided that I should make him a wall hanging of hostas. He designed it and selected the fabrics, and I traced, cut it and forgot about it. I let it sit for about a year and a half. A year ago January, I decided to work on it
I thought I had a whole year to do it in as it…Continue
