Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
Just back from a FUN week in Paducah. Participated in the Flash Mob parade thru the convension center to open the show on Wed. It was such fun -vendors seem to really enjoy the show of our small quilts. Go to Youtube to see a bit of it.
I've been in the sewing room cutting out all that new fabric for my sashiko patterns. Did I really say I would control adding to my stash this year. NADA!

Joel had an old pickup truck that he used for feeding catfish. It was old and beat up and I decided it would make a good subject to be photographed. Using those pictures last week, I made these postcards for Postcards to Columbus . The pictures were tweaked on the computer and then…

I went to the quilt show in Miamisburg yesterday. It was very nice. My favorite quilt shop was there among others. And some beautiful quilts on display. My favorite was a Dear Jane quilt done entirely by hand and my other favorite was the oldest quilt in the show. The oldest I have ever seen. It was found in someones attic. It was in fantastic condition, and it was made in the 1830's or 40's. So amazing to see such an old quilt. It is about 100 years older than my oldest quilt. It was neat…

i have a lattice/pinwheel quilt pieced from 1940s feed sacks and repro fabric in my frame to hand quilt in my sunroom where i can look out at deer, wild turkeys, roadrunners, etc. while I listen to an audio book. life doesn't get much better than this.
has anyone else broken into their feed sack stash to actually use those pieces of history?

ANyone out there making Day of the Dead art quilts besides me?
I am fascinated with making skellies dance, party, skate, cook, etc. Its so much fun to create little vignettes for them to live in/on :-)
2 of my better ones were...a skeleton party, and skeletons "under the sea" having a party.

I have started yet another baby quilt. Actually this size is just right for me, as I can do something quite creative, still call it a quilt and also explore and perfect my skills with each one I make. Being that size I can be sure that I will actually be able to finish it in a reasonable time frame.
For this one I started with a jungle print, and then collected fabrics from various places to put it all together. I copied an animal applique pattern from one magazine. A pinwheel pattern…

Our early and mild spring weather has given us beautiful flowers this year. My back patio is a fragrant experience with roses and iris blooming right now.
When my yellow iris shows it first bloom, I think of the old cemetery that is on the top hill of one of our family’s pasture. There hasn’t been anyone buried there for decades, but years ago someone planted…

I went to the DMV to renew my driver's licence and get a new picture taken and the clerk kept tellling me how cute my purse was. She said that she had a purse fetice. I have a quiltig friend in Finland. We have never met in person, but we are keeping in touch by email. I met her on line several years ago when I was looking for quilting information from Europe to add to our guild's newsletter. At one time we both made the same quilt, a wall quilt with Canadian motives (moose, cottage, lake, bear, etc.) and we exchanged the photos. That was fun and interesting.
Maarit seems to be quilting all the time when you see all the things she makes. Visit her…

The other day I was cruising through the pictures y'all have been posting of your recent works and saw a quilt that Lynne Kappes made from a ten minute quilt block book, and I loved it. So of course for the last couple days it's been driving me crazy wanting to try it.. so today I did. Here is the first block, I have 8 done and need to do 4 more for the size I want. I have two more patterns from this same fabric line and it's looking even better than I imagined it would. If I hadn't spent…

Kansas made the news this last Saturday with over 100 tornadoes spotted on the ground or by radar. The approaching bad weather—thanks to modern technology—was forecasted both well in advance and during the tornado outbreaks.
We knew exactly when to go to our tornado shelter because of the radio announcer’s commentary on the paths of the three tornadoes…

I recently lost my ever loving mind and decided I would hand quilt my brother's quilt. So, I got out my handy dandy pvc quilt frame..which I do love, in my small apt. it's the most excellent size. Then last night when I went to bed I pulled the sides up and laid them on top so Cat wouldn't climb up and accidentally tear a hole in it somewhere. She basically ignored the whole thing until this afternoon, apparently her perch in the window finally got too warm or too bright or she just decided…

I am looking for a pattern with sailboats and would appreciate if anyone could direct me to one, preferably patchwork, but some applique would be nice too.
Thank you in advance,

We quilters are an interesting bunch! It is funny to me how we love, love, love our projects. At least I love most of mine. I particularly enjoy the planning stage. It will be this fabric and this one, and maybe another color thrown in to the mix, using a particular pattern. These decisions for me usually don't come too easily, I so want it to be just right.
Then comes the cutting out part, which is probably my least favorite part. I seldom can be patient enough to cut it all out…
