Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
Reading over some old entries (am I the only nut who does this?) I have realized I have led you all astray here on what I am working on so it is time to set the records straight. I delivered Rock Star Monkey the second weekend of November to my nephew and wife and the star himself, Dean, at my mom's 80th birthday party. What fun we had and they loved the quilt. Dean even clapped. Gotta have that appreciation, I'm telling you! Here's the picture of my sister, showing it to the…Continue
Just finished my quilt entry for this year's Pacific West Quilt Show in Tacoma. The challenge fabric is visible as the border and all those fussy-cut flowers that act as the octopus' "suckers" on his tentacles. The quilt size is 18" square, the other requirement.…Continue
Be careful gals, there is fishing on this website. A gal from Dakar Senegal named Rebecca Diane, sent me a message asking me to email her at her email address. She found my name on here and sent me an email message with photos and such. Telling me how old she was and things. I have blocked her email and moved her to my junk folder. She removed herself from my quilt place after contacting my email. she had put a public message on my page telling me she wanted to be my friend and had…Continue
I've designed a quilt based on a picture I saw on Facebook: it showed a Charlie-Brownish figure sitting on a dock next to a Snoopy-ish dog, looking at a spiraling sunset in vivid colors. The picture captured exactly what I wanted to make for my doctor's fundraising MS Walk. In addition to being the director of a hospital MS Center, she also trains service dogs for people who need their assistance. The rainbow is to represent the theme of optimism.…Continue
Yeah, yesterday was my first official day of business. Well not really, but the first day that I made two repairs and got paid for them. The first few repairs I took old machines in trade, which was cool because I had another machine to work on (play with, this in not work). However, it wasn't very profitable since I had to buy parts for them.
And the other, I pulled a stupid stunt and threw my back out. so that one cost me chiropractor visits. I will say this has been a great…Continue

I have returned from my jaunt with loads of fabric, a new husband, and the flu. Yikes. We got in late last night and I kind of threw stuff at my sewing room. After my death march to finish 4 quilts for grand daughters (mission accomplished) my sewing room is in a bit of a shamble. The final quilt was finished and bound at 6pm the night before we left. Sewing machines all…Continue
I have designed a Quilt Along that is being featured on The Sewing Loft blog and today the second block-- flying geese was posted.
It is all about learning points. Sewing points, not cutting off points, whatever. Just points!
You can find out more about pattern for the block here:…Continue
By the looks of the floor in my sewing area, it has been a very productive weekend. I see stray threads that were cut and mindlessly dropped. There are straight pins laying and stuck in every possible place that will hold a pin. There are scraps of fabric and pieces of batting lying in little cocoons on the table. Maybe I will get lucky and they will sprout wings and fly to the places they belong. I love my jumbled sewing mess. I shows me that my hands were busy, my mind was active and my…Continue
'LIFE IS LIKE A QUILT'
Life is like a patchwork quilt
Each little patch is a day,
Some patches are rosy, happy and bright,
Some are dark and grey.
But each little patch
As it's fitted and sewn to keep it together
Make a finished block in this life of ours
Filled with sun and rainy weather
So let me work on life's patchwork…

Question: I have pieced the top for Reel 'Em In; however, I cannot tell how the quilt was quilted. Does anyone know the best way to quilt this, or the best color thread to use? I contacted the fabric manufacturer who said the quilt kit was put together by a fabric store and, most likely, the photo on the pattern was computer-generated without the quilt having ever been made.
this is the link for my new facebook page for quiltershttp://https://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Quilted-Life-Pieces/120423574796523?ref=hl. Join the discussions, post a photo of your project or add your thoughts. Be sure to "LIKE" my page so it comes up in the search engines.

I have to say, since I've been home, I feel completely out of sync with everything going on here. It doesn't help that I've been sleeping my life away the last few weeks. I haven't done a heck of a lot, but my house is getting cleaner and a little more organized, it's one of my New Year's Resolutions, get everything a place and put it there, what doesn't have a place, get rid of it. Hopefully come the end of the year, my house will have stayed clean for some time, all the excess baggage will…Continue
Well, you are if you collect thimbles. Have you ever wondered about the history of the thimble? Since Hasbro has decided to “jail” one of Monopoly's game pieces, this places our beloved thimble in jeopardy. I decided to do a little research, and here is a brief summary of what I learned:
A thimble is the protective shield worn on the…Continue
Couldn't show a lot of things I have been doing before Christmas. I know it is already the middle of January but having been gone so long from the blog I had to really decide if I wanted to come back.
Christmas was the year of the grandchildren. I bought the Ellie Doll Bed pattern (Kwik Sew) several months ago but it just sat in…

As promised, even though it took forever, I have a pattern available for my quilt "When God Became a Man" - It comes in the smaller size, but with permission to enlarge and directions for making the larger one in three panels.
The smaller one is ideal for a Christmas wall hanging. The big one is in a church foyer.
The easiest way to purchase it is…Continue
"When life hands you scraps, make a quilt!" Wonder how many I'll have to make in 2013? :-) I call the one below the "Jelly Roll Wreck", created from an unattractive, and subsequently, deconstructed "Jelly Roll Race" quilt top. Making two tops that result in only one quilt isn't very productive, but it's doubly satisfying because I salvaged the fabric! On to #5...…Continue

I'm currently working on my 2nd Memory Quilt. I have photos and quotes to put on in the quilt squares. I wanted to use purple varigated threads and blanket stitch around the pictures but it didn't look right and I took them all out and used invisible thread and it looks much better. I want to try and figure out how to machine quilt it to look nice , since I'm not a very good machine quilter. I would take a rent a longarm from the quilt shop I…Continue

OMG! I'm busier than a two headed woodpecker in a beetle killed pine forest! Really, its going very fast and my quilting challenge is getting more complete as my off days from work can help me it done.
You can see regular posting on this challenging quilt and awesome experience documented on my blog. My Mac is needing a total upgrade and now I cannot upload photos from my home computer. So I'm sorry readers, you'll have to go to …Continue

Because it is raining. I know it doesn't sound unusual for most, but for us in Minnesota it is a bit odd. Although if it were snow, we'd be snowed in! I think that tonights agenda should be:
1. To quilt a wonderful queen size quilt with lovely butterflies, and swirls...I think I will use a glossy thread to accent the fabric. Lovely! I can hardly wait.
2. Hot chocolate, but no where near my quilting frame.
3. And a movie to go along with it. My neighbor just gave me My…Continue
