Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
Hi all, this is the wall hanging I tried to complete in 24 hours. This is from the newest issue of Quilt Trends, the pattern is called coastal mountains. Can't quite decide whether to keep it or give it away. This was originally a fun, rich and colorful wine print. I still think it is fun! On to the next project. Maybe I should aim for one a…Continue

We all get to the same place in similar ways, and my pink quilt has evolved (and devolved) until its shape and design is set (I think). I've eliminated 2 block designs, because after I twisted and turned them all on the design wall, it was just too much, too busy. That means half of the blocks made will be put aside, and I'm thinking of a sort of "re-gift" or re-use if you will, making a completely separate quilt with them. So it's off to JoAnn's tomorrow, after hubby's routine check-up to…Continue

So, if you've read any of my posts you know I have entirely too many projects going at any one time and a couple dozen ideas in my head that I can't wait to start on.
So, what do I get in the mail today? Three new quilting books. To do all the things I want to do I'm going to have to live to be 139 or so, lol. And that's if I don't add anything new!!
Two of the new projects I want to do will be helped along tremendously by the new books.. I've been dying to do a Baltimore Album…Continue

I bought a fruits & vegtable quilt kit for my birthday summer before last. something I'd been wanting to make for a long time. The pattern is in a book called Six Halves Make a Whole and it's called All Shook up. My quilte will really look nothing like the book quilt. Well, I finished two small quilts and a table runner so I decided to do this one. When I first took out the book and started reading the pattern I thought I'd bit off more than I could chew but…Continue
As you know I'm new to quilting so I still have that "new car smell" so to speak and am very excited about anything to do with quilting. When I watch a movie I notice the bedding in the scenes or any throws on a couch or wall hangings and miss important parts of the story. I see patterns in things now. Most of my emails are quilt related. So as you can imagine a fabric store is like a candy store to me. But it's so much worse than that. It's a crack house! I keep making fun of this…Continue
Ok, so it's not much of a discovery, I knew this about myself I just keep forgetting. I am unhappy in my sewing room when I'm working on a project I am not excited about. This is the reason I have 4700 projects going at any one time. Today I might be in love with project XYZ and tomorrow I might be inspired to start something new and now ABC is my new love for a few days.. it doesn't mean I won't ever finish XYZ, I just don't want to work on it right now. With that in mind..…Continue
For those that read my earlier posts about the Cricut - here's the follow up. I returned the Cricut because you cannot make your own designs for cutting. After research I ordered the Silhouette Cameo.
The Silhouette Cameo cutter works for cutting fabric and it will cut my designs! I'm a very happy camper right now. These two Hawaiian designs were from EQ7 and converted with the basic software from Silhouette and then cut. They are 5" squares. Great detail and smooth cuts. Goody…Continue

Is there a way to save certain posts. There are times when someone gives a suggestion or has an idea and I would like to save it or at least mark it in someway.

January is almost over and I believe I've accomplished a TON this month.
1) I've started a Block of the Month (that I've always wanted to do). Actually I may have gotten a little carried away because I've started 2 now. The first is through Craftsy.com and it's a FREE tutorial and we're making 2 blocks per month. The other is through my Quilt Guild and is a pieced block, the first one is "Barbara Fritchie Star", made up of half square triangles. I have never done those before…Continue

While trying to photo my Block Buffet Mystery, Petey The Dog kept standing on it. I would admonish him, he would leave, I would get off the photo-taking ladder and straighten the quilt, then climb back up the ladder. Pete would return, walk on the quilt, etc, We did this over and over. He also gets between me and my granddaughter when I try to photo her. Camera hound!
I am new to blogging here, but I think this will be a good place for me to share both the traditional and non-traditional work I'm doing. I have another blog that has (as of late) been focusing on art quilting. I still need a place to show more traditional work.
Currently, I'm working on free-form blocks influenced by projects in Rayna Gillman's new book "Create Your Own Free-form Quilts." You can check that out at my…Continue

Yes I have used the woven fabrics in quilts. I did a throw with many of the different woven designs kind of like a sampler. I usually put everything on point just because I think it looks more interesting. I have pictures of them but not sure how to put them on this site. I'm with you on the African patterns. and also fabric from the Australian native fabrics but working on getting some of them. The Mayan people here do lovely embroidered birds on the woven fabrics and I just picked up some…Continue

http://starwoodquilter.blogspot.com/2011/09/linoleum-quilt-block.html This 6" Linoleum block is part of my Farmer's Daughter Quilt. I made it to accompany my grandmother's 1916 diary entry for March 2 about scrubbing the kitchen floor on her hands and knees. I'd love for you to read…Continue

I have stash, lots and lots of stash. I have seen people with more, but I know that I truly have sufficient fabric to pick up any of the magazines I have (lots and lots of those too!) and make a project right now, without venturing out to the store. I flip through a magazine, a particular project pulls me in and I run to the store... to get more fabric.
When I shop, I find one main fabric and the next thing you know I am pulling out bolts and fat quarters to see if I can get something…Continue
