Fall leaves

My first attempt at foundation piecing. I changed the backround to make it look as if they were falling through the sky. The way it's draped makes it look like curved sides, but they're straight

Time is on my side (finally!) and how do you handle family situations-opinions needed!

Hello quilters!  As I said the other day in my post, I have just completed my bachelor's degree in nursing after starting in the field in 1979.  After getting my associate's degree in 1981, I was in the process of getting my BSN when I became pregnant with my first child in 1988.  I have spent the better part of the last 2 years taking both online and traditional classes.  There is such a weight now lifted off my shoulders!!  On my days off, I actually have nothing to do!!  It's so…

Coming up for air

Whew! It has been a long while since I have poked around this site and posted. I have been busy; making 3 quilts in the past 3 months- a record for me. 1 was raffled off at work this week and happily won by one of my good friends. She really hoped she would win it and I'm so glad she did. The other 2 are wrapped and under the tree. I can't wait to see the faces of my parents and daughter when she opens them. I was so excited to finish them that I wrapped both before I took pictures! I will…

Multiple projects

Posted on July 28, 2011 at 11:43pm 7 Comments

I started a new project today and I feel so guilty and conflicted because I haven't finished my other one yet. But I have 3 quilts I want to make for Christmas gifts and one that I promised work for a raffle so I really don't have the time to finish the other one at this time. I've really only been a one-at-a-time kinda girl. I worry about keeping supplies and fabrics separate and organized. Do you work on multiple projects at once? What are your strategies for keeping them separate and… Continue

Quilt frames

Posted on July 8, 2011 at 12:12pm 8 Comments

Ok, I'll admit it, I've become a Craigslist addict. I regularly search for 3 things: singer sewing, quilting, and shelves (looking for more storage in my sewing room). I have come across several quilting frames that you use with your own machine. Hinterberg stretch frame, little Gracie, and HandiQuilter are some names I have come across. I have a Janome 6600 with a 9" throat. Is it worth investing in a frame now and possibly getting a longarm machine later? I have no intention of making king… Continue

Hi, nice to hear from you. Boy you sure are a busy person. You have soooo much going on I cann't even keep up with you. Do you have enough time in the day to deep track of everything?! What are you taking in school? I wish I could go back but I am having enough trouble just trying to keep up with the on-line course I'm taking. I'm taking a Hawaiian Quilt Course at Quilt University. It's fast going. But I like it and I'm learning alote.

Do you think you'll get everything done in time? I hope you do. Right now I want to finish my Hawaiian and hang it up over my fireplace in the living room.

Well I'll cut this short and write back when you can.

Hi, how are you? Thought I would check in and see how the quilt you were work on is coming along? I haven't talked with you in a bit and was thinking about you and the quilt. How's things going? Work? And family? Write when you can.

Hi, happy to hear you had a great time and the measurement worked for you. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll make up a little pattern for it to practice on and then I'll get it stated, it should be great to finish. I do the binding by machine. How do you do it? Hand or machine? I wasn't that good with my hand sewing but now that I am sewing by hand I have gotten better.
I guess I'll sign off before I talk your ear off, write when you can.

Any and all suggetions are greatful. I also asked Bridget for some. So with two suggestions I can maybe finish it for my husaband and he will be a happy camper.
