Profile Information

Tell us about yourself—as much or as little as you like.
I'm a mid-40 something, archival cataloguer, with a darling husband and sweet nearly 14 year old daughter, who are both artists themselves. Besides quilting, I do loads of other fiber arts including spinning, knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, and weaving. I also like to cook and garden and I'm a belly dancer.
How many quilts have you made?
1 doll quilt and 2 quilt tops
Do you want to make quilts, or simply enjoy them?
Make and enjoy them
How long have you been a quilter?
Started my first block when I when I was 6, started collecting fabric then, begging scraps from my mom and grandmothers who all sewed. Have kept saving scraps for quilts and completed my first top during Snowmageddon 2010.
What is your favorite quilting technique?
hand quilting
Why do you quilt?
Because it's fun and creative. It lets me indulge my love of geometrics and colors. It's a useful way to use up scraps/display my fabric collection. It lets me remember garments I no longer have and the people I gave them to or the reasons I made and when and where I made them.

Burrito quilt sketches

Posted on March 3, 2013 at 4:19pm 2 Comments

This is the sketch my daughter did for her first quilt, aka "The Burrito Quilt" (she wants to make a quilt big enough to wrap herself up in as if she's a burrito). It's is shades of blues and purples, with the very lightest being a minty color.

It's going to be 76 in. x 84 in. (or 19 x 21, 4 in. sq.)

We tweaked the dimensions slightly so that we could…

The "Burrito" Quilt

My daughter turns 14 next month and after being around fibers arts all of her life, she's finally showed some interest in learning to sew. Cue a choir of angels singing the "Hallelujah Chorus!" I was beginning to despair that the long line of seamstresses/crafters would come to a screaming halt with my only child.

Anyways, her Spring Break is the end of the next month and we're beginning to plan what we're going to do (I forsee a trip into Washington, DC for some museum…

Michelle I do to I just love Batiks the way they feel and sew together. I was asked to do some 100% cotton strips also but I do love the Batiks so I am going to keep the Batik strips going still. I have about 30 followers so far.

Hi Michelle just here to introduce myself and welcome you to MQP. Your quilts are just beautiful.

Some times we are not sure where to visit on this site but I wanted to let you know that I have a group of gals and I that are doing several different quilts the Blooming Nine and the Jewel Box quilts. We are posting pictures with our choices of fabrics and progress. Carla Walton has done several of the Blooming Nine so she is our administrator. Come on over to view what we are doing at http://myquiltplace.com/group/batik-strip-swap/forum/topics/projects-and-pictures?xg_source=activity.

To do the Jewel Box we have a Batik Strip Swap going on and we are using those strips for the Jewel Box.
