The Unloved BOM

Posted on October 20, 2013 at 9:17am 4 Comments

Has anyone out there done a BOM that they didn't like?  I'm currently in one and I really will be glad when it's over.

I'm actually in three BOMs.  Two in-store that we attend, and one through the mail.  My favorite is at Common Thread in Tigard (near Portland) Oregon.  Last year we did Wing and Prayer's Rhapsody and now we are completing their Contessa.  These are beautiful, complex quilts that have a distinct challenge each month.  But they are organized!  The patterns are…

Hubby Sewing Disaster

Posted on October 11, 2013 at 6:30pm 3 Comments

My husband is one of those guys.  You know, why press the shower knob in when you can SMACK it.  Why lift the car door lever when you can YANK it.  So, even though it took me a while to figure out what happened, it wasn't a surprise.

I had to prep for my BOM class last Friday night and sat down at my beautiful Pfaff.  I began a seam on a half square triangle and, snap, broke a needle.  I pleasantly changed the needle.  Snap.  I cursed under my breath and changed it again.…

Capistrano Quilt -- First Success

Posted on August 10, 2013 at 1:09am 2 Comments

I have begun the art quilt for my sister.  I wanted to depict two doves flying away from a fountain in the courtyard at Capistrano.  I decided to put steam a seam on chunks of batik and cut that out to match birds I had created.  I also need to do this with bells and some flowers that haven't yet been determined.  I'm really happy with the first dove--his other wing will appear tomorrow.  He will require careful needlework once I get there, but I'm really pretty happy with it so far.  I've…

In the first quarter of the journey

Posted on July 9, 2013 at 11:08am 6 Comments

I've been quilting a couple of years and am starting to get the hang of it.  I had always wanted to quilt, but until I had a room I could dedicate to quilting, it just didn't make sense.  And then there is my tendency to improvise dangerously...I was worried about accuracy.  But armed with my rotary cutter and a quarter inch foot I am not firmly on my way.  In the past two years I have made ten or twelve quilts, have acquired three machines for myself and one for my granddaughter and have…

hi melody ...about your comment re: unfamiliarity w getting around in mqp ...i agree it is set up a bit differently than others i frequent.. i was asked by another mqp member couple years ago about how to get around, post pics etc. so i wrote the discussion in the link below. i have been asked for info several times since then and then another member has asked me for the link a few times the nerd i am, i saved it to the yellow tablet on my ipad. i hope this helps you enjoy this great fun place here @ MQP. i think it's still very current as far as info...if you find any changes needed please let me know.

Melody, the quilt along is a ball. It is in the designer batik swap group here on MQP. Don't worry, you don't have to swap, and it doesn't have to be batik. See my response on your comment, and please "come see us". LOL

I don't visit this site very often -- so just saw your note.  I also live on the La Center

border -- near the View/Amboy area not far from 503.  Could we be neighbors and not

know it?       Dorothy
