Don't give up, Marie! There are many, many things that everyone seems to know about computers that I don't have a clue about. I just do the things I can do. Like I don't understand Facebook or twitter or any of that stuff, so I don't do it. It seems like you're fine here participating in discussions, so that's what I would do. This is a really good place to make friends and I'd hate to see you go!
I made a small quilt (16x16) with one large Dresden Plate on it, and it has curved tips instead of pointy ones, and I thought it looked kind of funny...you're right; a beach ball! This time I plan on doing points instead. The only part I'm worrying about is sewing it to the background fabric. I like regular piecing, not applique'. The pineapple quilt is another I'd like to tackle, but I plan on getting more experience first; that one looks especially hard. I've heard that Bonnie Hunter is the best teacher for those. I'll have to check out her page.
I hope you daughter can post some pictures for you; I love seeing what everyone has made.
When I first joined this site I came here every day for two weeks before I figured most things out. It was extremely confusing to me, but I finally get it. I don't use Facebook and I'm not on any other quilting groups, so I wasn't sure how things worked. I'm surprised that I managed to figure out how to put pictures on; that took me the longest to figure out.
What do you think you'll make next? I'm thinking about making a Dresden Plate lap quilt just for myself. That's my favorite block, but I don't like applique so I've never tried it. But I have a nice collection of reproduction 30's fabrics that I would love to use for a quilt like that.
Are you almost finished with your current quilt? Are you keeping it or giving it away?
You posted a link to it in the comment section of my blog post called "Out of it". If you scroll down to the bottom of the main page where the blog posts are listed you'll see my post and then click on it and go to the part where you comment and you'll see your post with the link to it. Hope this helps!
I just saw the large finished one you posted...what a clever idea! I've never heard of a crumbie quilt and I'm wondering if it means just what it says...using leftover crumbs of fabric. Anyway, it's really neat!
I saw you got your picture of the crumbie quilt up...good job! That looks like it's something that would be fun to do. How large are you making it? And where did you get the idea?
I was on this site every day for two weeks until I finally figured things out. I don't belong to Facebook or any group like this, so it was all new to me. I like it here because I don't know any quilters and now I've met a bunch!
Hi Marie~thanks for adding me as a friend!
You know, I never thought about quilts until I actually made one. No one in my family quilted and I thought quilts were for the Amish. My mother-in-law took me to a quilt show several years before I made my first quilt and I was bored to tears...I couldn't understand what the big deal was! NOW I get it! It was just a fluke that I even started quilting. My brother thought I'd like it, so for my birthday one year he got me all the stuff I needed to make a quilt. The book he sent along was Eleanor Burns' Log Cabin book, so that's the quilt I made. I was hooked after that!
I have never heard of a crumbie quilt. I'll have to look that one up. It sounds great if you don't have to match points!
I used to make larger sized quilts, but I just can't handle them anymore, so I've been making smaller things instead. The largest I've made were five queen sized quilts for a bed and breakfast. They want a sixth one, but it's taking me forever because I'm just not up to finishing the quilting.
I have so many things I want to learn. What I really love is the Dresden Plate pattern, but I don't like applique', so I'm not sure how I'll ever manage that! Someone told me it's not too hard because you aren't working with little tiny pieces. I want to make it out of the reproduction 30's fabrics; those are my favorites!
Well, thanks again for adding me as a friend! I hope to hear from you again soon!
