I have been quilting for about 30 years, several years ago, my husband gave me a wonderful gift for Christmas of EQ5 and it opened the universe of design to me, the change from a piece of graph paper and colored pencils to using my computer was amazing! I absolutely Love it!!! I originally started quilting with my Mother when I was a teenager, but really got heavily into it when I was in my early 20's and married the first time. My Grandmother-in-law was an amazing quilter and spent days with me teaching me everything she knew. I have been lucky enough to pass this on to my daughter who took this gift and made applique Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Sam pillows for her Grandma & Grandpa (his mother taught me) for Christmas the first year she was quilting. The were both completely overjoyed because no-one in their family had taken the time to learn this fabulous skill from her. I feel blessed every day that she took the time to teach me this skill and that I have been able to pass her skill on to another generation. Even though that family is no longer mine, they are my daughters and she makes them quilts every year for the holidays and that is wonderful and very fulfilling to me. Making sure that skills like quilting, knitting and crocheting continue on to the next generation are very important to me.
How many quilts have you made?
60+
Do you want to make quilts, or simply enjoy them?
I make quilts to enjoy them, and for others to enjoy them also.
How long have you been a quilter?
30+ years
What is your favorite quilting technique?
I really have no favorite, I love mixing embroidery either Machine or hand with machine pieced or applique.
Why do you quilt?
It is my therapy! It has always made me feel like I am accomplishing something very important.

Loretta, sorry that you have not been well.   I hope this email finds you progressing and feeling like your old self. I will wait for an update on your suggested project.  I have placed a recent crocheted doily in amongst the photos on my page.  I am currently making another for a member of the quilt place.  It is progressing well.  Anyway must go its getting late here in Adelaide South Australia. 0315 hrs and I have got to bring in the cat and head off to bed as I am going out today.  Bye for now Julie.

Oh my gosh!  I'm amazed you can function at all!  I have a lot of health issues, but absolutely nothing compared with what you have to live with!  Are you in the process of applying for disability?  I would think you'd be approved first time around.  How old were you when you were diagnosed?  Are you on a bunch of meds?  I am and I don't have p*********** coverage, but I applied for patient assistance from a few drug companies and was approved for three of them.  I wasn't approved for the pain medicine and that one is $85/month.  When do you get to UofM hospital?  You'll probably have excellent care and hopefully some help to allieviate some of your symptoms.  Do they know what caused it in the first place?

Changing the subject, I know you were collecting fabrics for your special quilt.  Do you have an idea for backing fabric?  I have several yards of one that I think you may like and I can post a picture of it if you're interested.  It's several yards, but if I recall you're making a queen size quilt and I know it's not enough for that, but if you plan on piecing your back it may be useful.  Let me know if you want to see it.

What kinds of things are you making for Christmas?  Do you know how to sew?  I'm trying to learn.  I never learned until I made my first quilt, but I want to be able to make fun things like eyeglass cases, bags, aprons and other stuff like that.  My mind gets confused by regular sewing patterns, although I have made 2 super easy bags and 2 easy aprons.  Someone here recommended I try a mug rug.  What stops me is that I don't like putting binding on small things; but she said I could turn it inside out like a coaster.  So I really should give it a try.

Are you in the middle of working on something right now?  I've been working on a table runner for weeks now.  I was having a hard time doing anything and just wasn't in the mood, but I think maybe the mood is coming back because now all I have left is the binding.  I plan on putting it on Etsy because I recently sold two table runners there and we can use every penny.

Well, sorry to be so long winded!  Thank you for sharing with me.  I hope you'll be feeling much better soon!

Hey girl,

Yes, I did read Bridgett's post.  I kinda figured something was wrong.  In face, Diana sent you a post about one of the swaps and I informed her about your illness.  Do what you have to do to get well.  We all understand and have you in our prayers.  I will put you on a schedule to help keep you updated on what's happening.  You just take care of yourself and know that you have a doctor in a much higher place than your earthly doctor.  And He's watching you always.

Luv...

I'm so sorry to hear you've been so sick!  Are you on meds for the pain?  I have chronic pain and I'm on morphine, which makes me tired much of the time.  It's helps knock the pain down a few notches, but nothing totally gets rid of it.  Last summer I dealt with major swelling and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong.  I assume it was from one of my meds.

So, what does it mean that you were accepted at the UoM hospitals?  Will you get better treatments there?  We have a place called Oregon Health Sciences University and they're up all all the latest, so I'm figuring yours is probably the same type of deal.  You mentioned the name of your disease before, but what exactly does it do to you, aside from pain (as if that wasn't enough)?

I do hope you'll be feeling much better soon!  And I'll post a note on the swap group.  Take care!!!

Loretta, I am still waiting on Raine's FQs so if you can get them to me by Thursday 9/22, then yes, you can still swap.

Glad you are feeling better.
