Tell us about yourself—as much or as little as you like.
I am a grand mother of 11 and have been sewing all my life. I crochet and up till recently wove pineneedle baskets too. I taught Water Color for a while in a community college and Have been published for my Beaded Gourds. You might say I have dabbled in most areas of the arts but I am truly looking forward to going head on into the quilting realm of the sewing world. I am a great listener and will be asking loads of questions. Thats how I learn

I am a newby but have admired them forever. I decided it was either join them or fight them and I choose to join
What is your favorite quilting technique?
Not quite sure yet but I love the log cabins and I love the applique too

because I can and I have the time and the imagination to create

Help with Hand quilting thread

I am having a terrible time with knotting and fraying. I am using Gutermann 100% cotton thread, I use shorter lengths, I occasionally allow it to unwind as I am sewing but I still get knots where I don't want them. What am I doing wrong. Is there a better thread that I should be using? I even apply a small amount of beeswax to no avail. 

Help please. I am working on Hawaiian flower blocks and there is a lot of turns and thousands of stitches. 

I would appreciate any useful…

I also preturn my blocks before I sew them down you will learn that the tip of your needle is valuable tool o smooth out the turn as you stich . also the better the fabris the less fraying and spray starch is a life saver starch the fabric and iron before you start cutting,or keep a little bottle to spray as you go.the starch makes a nice clean turn under seam' it just takes practice.

quilt is orgous one  of the hardest quilts to do I used fraycheck and the stuff that comes in the little blue box it is called thread heaven it is a thread conditioner,I always fight knots shorter thread helps also I am so sorry I havent answered your post I havent been on here for a long time I have had a lot of health problems but am a lot better now, I aleo have done a lotof different things I beaded alot did a lot of beading for regalias I am Native american I make drums, rattles and regalia. i tau8ght beginning quilting in a community college I paint ed in oils when I was younger ,now I try to paint with fabric, I am making the new york beauty with all the little fling geese and the little posies in the center of each block I have a pick posted in my photos my inspriation piece the pattern was in the Quilters Newsletter. what are you doing? I hope you get asmuch joy out of quilting as I do, I have lost most of my ability to walk soI just sit and sew at my machine or in my recliner. I have about 15 ofos all neatly filed in boxes waiting for me to finish.

btw...your avatar is gorgeous...could you post pics of more of your work? hawaiian quilting is one of the first things that went on my quilty bucket list years ago...love them!
