Profile Information

Tell us about yourself—as much or as little as you like.
I consider myself a "confident beginner" in quilting and several other crafts. I crochet, knit (a little), and work counted cross stitch. I am loving learning all of the various quilting techniques.
How many quilts have you made?
To completion...? 3
Do you want to make quilts, or simply enjoy them?
The process of making them is the most enjoyable to me.
How long have you been a quilter?
5 years
What is your favorite quilting technique?
I have not yet decided. So far, I like hand-piecing better than machine work. I think it's because it's a calming and relaxing feeling to me to sit quietly and work with my hands.
Why do you quilt?
My dad was in construction, bridges and such, and he loved working with his hands. I think it is just in my genes to "build" things for pure the love of seeing plain and ordinary material transform into beautiful and useful things.

HI Goldie! Thanks for the note back. It's been fun meeting people from FL to Australia on this site and comparing everything from quilting to weather...

There are so many ways to quilt, it's mind boggling personally, but everyone seems to find their favorites.

I bet you'd enjoy my Trail of Thread book series. It's based on my ancestors that were caught in the Civil War when they moved from Kentucky and Ohio to Kansas. There are accounts that they worked with the Underground Railroad too. I didn't realize how much the state was involved in the war until I did research. Of course I mention quilts in the story line too...

Have a great day!

Welcome Quilter Friend!

Just wanted to pop in to say “hello” and introduce myself. I’m Linda Hubalek, fellow quilter and author from Kansas. Books about pioneer women are my specialty, with a cooking or a quilting theme mixed into each historical fiction series.

My Trail of Thread historical fiction book series, written in the form of letters sent back home, describes my ancestors’ wagon trail journey and homesteading in Kansas. Each book mentions twelve old-time quilt patterns, and I put drawings of them in the back of the books.

So if you like to read—besides quilting—please enjoy my blog and book excerpts on my website. Besides printed as paperbacks, my ten books are also available for your Kindle or Nook. (Good choice for Christmas gifts, or yourself, because the ebooks are on sale now!)

I have about a dozen quilts made by my great grandmother, (that we used all the time when I was a kid) so I’m into antique quilts and patterns. What kind of quilts and patterns do you like to work with?

Happy quilting and reading!

Linda Hubalek
