Hello Denise, welcome to MQP. Hope you enjoy the site. There is a lot to see, things to inspire, fun groups to join and friends to meet.  Have you tried a pattern called Rail Fence?  It is a basic pattern, and very pretty when done.  I have a friend who says Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day has some good beginner patterns, and the instructions are easy to follow.  Good luck to you.

Denise, you should purchase Alex Anderson's book for beginner quilters. If you don't do that pick up a good quilting magazine and they always have a center fold that gives basic instructions. My recommendation for a first easy quilt is something small. Try making five 12 1/2 inch nine -patch unfinished blocks. Then cut 4 12 1/2 in squares of coordinating fabric. Lay these out in a 9 patch grid. You can add borders if you want. Good luck. Also, check put you-tube videos for beginning quilters. Lots of good stuff out there.
