"Hi dorthy. I would also like a copy of the pattern. Can you please let me know if it’s still available. I have been looking for this a long time. Even called Maclean’s magazine."

Profile Information

Tell us about yourself—as much or as little as you like.
I AM 77 YEARS OLD. I live in a small town in Oregon where I have lived almost my whole life I started quilting about 1980 then quit for awhile. In 2000 I started again to fill my time. I love fabric and Have always sewed . there are to many quilts I want to make. I am making a quilt for each of my grand children and great grands I have a hope chest full of tops but these quilts are to be special quilts for each one I have 6 done and 2 about half done, one is my take on the little brown bird quilt, and I am making the bom quilt from alex andersons web site it is like a new York beauty. I don't go much anymore because I am tethered to an qxygen tank. but that gives me more time to qult.I have 4 birds one a african grey that keeps me intertained with her comments and a big old black cat. who likes to lay on what ever I am working on. So Quilting is the sunshine in my life. I have been trying to get unfinished things done this year so I don't leave a lot ufos.for someone to put in a garage sale. I have been to those, and makes you want to cry ,someone has put all those hours in things and to their children they have no value except as something for a garage sale. They should be treasured. Quilts are such an artist expression of your self, and your expertise at a pioneer craft that should be carried on. So sorry neither of my girls quilt.but there is a little one who wanted to sew at 5 so we are working on that. greatgrandmas love their little ones. And I have a sewing machine waiting for her.
How many quilts have you made?
probably over 100 but a lot of utility quilts those that are used everyday and are worn but still in use.
Do you want to make quilts, or simply enjoy them?
I love makeing them every quilt is anadventure and a learning experience. I try to pick a quilt to do that I have to learn a new technique,so I can learn.
How long have you been a quilter?
30 years off and on. I started in about 1980
What is your favorite quilting technique?
I love making applique quilts the most, but I also love to piece, love the paper piecing saved time and is so accurate what a boon ,
Why do you quilt?
because I love it .I live and breath quilting I love looking at books ,new patterns, others work and fabric i cant get enough.
Do you have a website?

yesterday I browsed the photos of quilts. there were so many with no comments on them. We all need to encourage everyone by at least letting each other know, we saw your effort and you get at least an E for effort. a like takes very little time. A pat on the back is so encouraging makes you want to start another project. Makes you feel good and makes you know others are interested. And you are learning. Each quilt we make takes a lot of time planning and effort to finish.and aren't we all…

Dorothy the only other picture I will show you is a hanky that I bead embroidered!  I originally only wanted to do the centre R with a tiny heart on the end. However, after I finished the piece it become apparent that I needed to do more on the outer section of the hanky.  It will eventually be framed. Hope you enjoy these few pictures. I will send another letter to you with picture of completed works. Bye for now Julie Beard.migh

I LOVE YOUR WORK! Sorry about what happened with your patterns/fabric. There are just some people who don't care about anything. I do hope you'll come on and show us more of your beautiful work. I too am on a fixed income n can't get much done that I'd like with my neck and back. Neck keeps me from doing a lot of things. I have good days n bad but I keep pushing forward.

Hi Dorothy, just sent you a note my friend from a land down under!!!!  Wanted to let you know that I took a look at your pictures of your quilts.  They are all absolutely amazing and so much better than mine but I must admit I think you have been quilting a lot longer than me. I think I would be a baby in your eyes and I consider you an expert/professional quilter!!!!!!

I feel somewhat thrilled at your acknowledge of my quilt making skills.  I can't thank you enough for making me feel good today with your words of encouragement. Now I only wish I could say something that will make you feel good and take some of your stresses away for a while. All I think I can say is that I will be praying for you and I will write to you on a more regualr basis from now.

Well it's quite early in the morning and I have not gone to bed yet as I'm not tired and I wanted to leave this litte note also.  So I going to head off back to making a few more half inch hexies before I go to bed. Bye until next Julie Beard.
