On Part 4--I didn't cut my 1" strips yet because I couldn't decide on the color. Does anyone see anything wrong with cutting three 1" strips that are 50.5" inches long, then sewing strips of 5 half circles to each side? You would have to line up the opposite sides of the circles carefully, but you have to do that anyway. This would avoid having so many intersecting seams to line up, and the row of circles would look the same. I have enough yardage of my dark purple to get strips that long.

OK I just printed off part 3 and part 4 and will have to do some figuring on how to use my fabrics.  Have not done part two yet so going to do that first and then get back to the others.  It will be a challenge.  Wish me luck - I'll see if my brain can work on this again.  lol

I had to order the right color of green Kona fabric from my local quilt shop for the 1" strips and it won't ship to the shop for a couple of weeks so I hope I can wait on that part till then! I'll start cutting and sewing the 3" peiced for now! Ellen Anne Eddy just sent me this link to her blog and she has made me her first featured artist! I am really loving the age of the internet!!!!

I just read and printed out step 4...oh, I am thankful for an easier step!  LOL!  I sure hope I don't get any interruptions tonight, so I can get a lot done on this, unlike last night.  :o)

Am I just not understanding, or is there a mistake in Part 3?  It says to cut the centers, then add two strips to make it 2.25" to 3" high.  Then in the next step, it says to add two more strips, making the section 2.5" to 5" high -- only .25 difference between the narrowest one in previous round.

I did the same thing Susan Schultz did...using my Easy Circle Cut.

Part 4 is going give me time to catch up and finish Part 3

Chris I love your colors too.  Looking a bit like fall colors.  very nice choice.

Sheila, This may not help much but all 3 are good choices, but they each bring a different result to the table, so to speak.  Can't wait to see what you choose!!

I am barley started with part 3 so I am behind but hope to catch up this week.  Ladies these are all looking so great with the different fabrics we are using.

Bill, I used Easy Circle Cut for my part 2 blocks. I placed it over the templates to see which worked best for each unit. They were not exact, but close and they matched up to each other. I then lined the "fold edge" of the ruler on the cut edge of my printed fabric. This made "perfect" half circles which fit nicely with the half circle opening in my background fabric.

Hi Sheila - at first I was leaning towards the light green, because it does pick up the green hues in the blocks, but then the beige started to grow on me because of the pattern of the fabric adds something to the overall "feel" of the blocks.  sorry - can't think of the right word right now  :(
