Hi, Gwen. This group's been a bit quiet for a while, but with autumn weather arriving soon, things should pick up. I've still not learnec as much as l'd like. Going to attempt my first " in the hoop" project tomorrow...a sunflower coaster.

Hello all, I'm a quilter, for many years, and have done hand embroidery since a child, looking to get a machine some time this year if possible as I'm looking on the low money end, and would love it to do from internet, and disk, , and I just found out one many more let's u make your own pattern, wow, I'm impressed, I have seen some georgous work from these machines, well I know the brains behind the piece of metal is the real artist, .......... I would like to ask a question, I was swapping blocks with a very nice man I made regular pieced quilt blocks, his choice of size most were 9 or 12. But he did Santa's in beautiful colors, 3 Santa's, he did 3 fairys, and 1 hummingbird with flower, now this was over time, well he disappeared from the site, I know he was kinda sick, so I'm asking for help, nothing is a hurry up, for sure, I can make a couple of blocks for a swap of any of what I am needing, I was planning on 6 of each, so anyone who would like to help me out, I'd surely appreciate it, I'm on fb, and u can pm me, I will say before hand I'm not perfect, I am good, some people y great, but I have done customs quilts, am doing 4 this year, I am learning machine quilting, have done hand all my life , do and embroidery and some beadwork, as well as ribbon embroidery, I'm not limited to quilt blocks, I'm doing a set of shabby chick now and so loving that, so any takers just let me know and we can discuss what I will do, now not all the Santa's need to be alike, I'm trying to do a few different ones as I love the Santa's from around the world, I love Christmas, and Santa and frosty are my fav , even at 51 I'm still a kid I love it, I have one with traditional red coat , I have one in purple coat, for the larger coat he used fairy frost that is not necessary but they r qeorgous, and I love sparkles, I have my own page but I lost my computer and on only on this little tablet, I have lots of photos to upload, and more things to put, after losing my mother in march, I just left it alone, I'll go back to it this year, so glad to be in this group of such awesome designers, and lovely ladies-gents:-) :-) :-)  I'm here, just send me a line thank u for or time, I specialize in unique one of a kind,

As for learning tips on the embroidery machine...(.still on a learning curve myself) is to use the right stabilizer for the right job ( learn by experiment & reading websites of manufacturers) and to hoop as tight as you can. Also the older machines are picky about how thread comes off spool, so use nets to tame tge cones, and pay attention on small spools which way your machine prefers the thread to wind off spool. They vary:)

Carla! Really?The serger's just the neatest machine for sewing clothes & giving home dec items a proffesional finish. Some people do have problems...mostly due to dull cutting blades, improper tension or wrong threading. These issues won't be likely on a newer machine...so haul it out...follow the threading guide, and skim 1/4" off tge side of a couple of layers of plain cotton  to get a feel for it. Any problems/questions, please pm me...l've used many brands of domestic & commercial sergers over tge years. Even the big beasts can be tamed ! lf yours is one that has extra feet & a blade tgat can flip out of tge way, you'll be surprised at some of tge special effects you can sew on fleece or swaetshirt-type fabrics. oh...and beautiful rolled hems.

Carla, that's a good one. They have several different companies represented, and some are better than others. Do a sample before you stitch on your project. Most sites have freebies so you can test their designs. My favorite is www.emblibrary.com . Their freebies are fall designs till Nov. 30. Then they will do Christmas. Also, they are very affordable if you want to buy.

Riana , I just hauled my Aunts old designer 1 Viking embroidery machine home to learn how to do it. I've never embroidered before so i'm sort of scared. lol  even my serger is in the closet still unopened. hahahhah.

l'm thinking the embroidery machine would be a good too for Christmas napkins...but my machine's repetoire of Christmas related designs is scimpy. Anyone know of some free ones on line l can try to download? l've never done this, but my machine can "read" a memory stick...
