Hi!
I'm new to this group, but not new to wholecloth quilting. It has for many years been a favorite of mine. By way of introduction, if you're interested, you can have a look at my background here: http://www.denacrain.com/blog/dena-crain-resume/.
Some of the first quilts I made more than 20 years ago were wholecloth quilts. Stitched by hand or machine, they were heavily influenced in design by the lifestyle I discovered prevalent on the Kenya coast, especially the island of Lamu where we have a holiday house.
With a history rooted in the traditions of Arab seamanship, slaving, gold, ivory and spice trading around the Indian Ocean, and with the style of architecture made from chunks of old coral and plaster accented with dark wood arches, shutters and large carved doors, the influence on my early work was strong.
Since then, I've been through several stages of interest in underlying design symmetries and have worked to develop a method of designing that is different from what we usually see in patchwork quilting. I wanted to share that underlying structure with a group of quilters who specialize in wholecloth work, because it would be a wide-open field for people who want to create their own designs and have them be "special!"
I hope that in coming days and weeks, you'll be interested to learn more. Thank you for welcoming me into this group!

Wow Rita, that is amazing. The design process is the hardest for me. This one is off a bit in the center I think. It is mirror image but should have made the center all the same.
I love to hand quilt whole cloth. I do my own designs with the markings I have on hand. I sold one for 150. in may. I do hand quilting if any one has one to be done.
Hello, I am new to this group. I would like to make a queen orking size whole cloth quilt. I made a small one before and quite enjoyed it. Would anyone of you know a good source for buying a preprinted whole cloth quilt? I have seen the Christian Lane ones, there seem to be 2 patterns only.
Thank you, and happy quilting,

Would a panel quilt be considered a whole cloth quilt? I've done a few panel quilts over the years. My last one was a baby quilt for my new grandbaby. There's a photo on my profile. I have a couple more I want to start on. Would this be the right place to talk about 'em? They'll be hand quilted.
Hello everyone, I am preparing to embark on my first whole cloth quilt. I would like to include some trapunto and shadow trapunto on it. I've watched A LOT of videos on this and everyone says to use white batiste. This quilt will be one that is used, not just displayed. My question is this....Should I be looking for a 100% cotton batiste material, or polyester batiste or a blend? I'm finding all three of those types so I'm just not sure which way to go. This is a wedding gift so I want to do everything right or at least as right as I can get it. :) Thanks in advance. Any advice will be appreciated.
Good morning everyone. Welcome to the group Rose. Have you ever made a whole cloth quilt? There are many places to get designs for whole cloth quilts. I usually design my own, but I have found a new place that I am going to purchase some designs to play with. The company is, http://pdf.onesongneedlearts.com/. They have recently added PDF vector images to their business. These designs can be downloaded after purchase and printed out to any size that you might like. They have a free sample download available to try out. I think that their designs are gorgeous and I am looking forward to some hand quilting time this winter. Also, christianlanequilters.com has whole cloth quilt top kits available. I have some of Irena Bluhm's books. She makes beautiful quilts and has a great web site. Does anyone else have a favorite place to get designs from?
