UFOs

If you're a REAL quilter, you have at least one UFO (unfinished object) and one WIP (work in progress) stashed in the closet or stacked on a shelf. Maybe you just need quilting suggestions, or maybe a fresh eye from a new online friend can help with block arrangements. How about a UFO swap? Any UFO conversation is welcome.

I do hope, on this beautiful Sunday morning, that you are all staying safe from the fires and other weather related disasters out there!

For those of you who have seen Ricky Tims videos - I have not, and never thought to look on youtube for some.  I have his book, and worked from that.  Guess I should watch a video or two before I make another one!

Ginny - this one is 36 inches square, but directions are included to make it larger or smaller.  I started with an 18 inch square for my pattern which makes one fourth of the whole. I'll make another one some day, but not soon! Right now it's going to stay right where it is - pinned on the piece of flannel that is my design wall until next spring.  It will greet me when we come back to Ohio!

I got the "Cats Quilt" top done yesterday and started my Jelly Roll Quilt.  I am going to fit 4 small panels of wildlife into it.  I pooped out and took a nap and didn't sandwich my Baby Boy Quilt.

Ginny, thank you for explaining  patience to me and being sympathetic to my lack of it.  This is why I probably jump around so much in my quilting and stay away from difficult techniques and patterns.  I'll just have to try harder.

No, Ginny, magic binding is a whole different look. That one, a flange allows you to stitch the binding down to the front of quilt. This is 2 rows of piping ( cord in), then regular binding, handsewn on back. I did the piping with very small cord, as l didn't want the outer edge of quilt to feel too firm. It's very time consuming. I may try to devise a way to make a double flange instead...it would be a quicker way to get similar results.

I watched the Ricky Tims video and am now officially intimidated! LOL Yours is beautiful, Kris! How big do they end up?

The Biblical Sampler is stunning, Riana. Is that binding method done by machine and called something like Magical binding or the like? It really adds a zing to your finish!

I am so happy to hear that you are okay, Mary. We up here in WA are getting a lot of the smoke from OR and CA fires and it is miserable, but it makes me realize how bad it has to be there to send that much smoke this far. Prayers for all of your continued safety.

Elizabeth, We all suffer with a lack of patience to some degree, I think. I listen to Pat Sloan's videos every morning and she was talking about her lack of patience with her wrists not healing fast enough to suit her. She mentioned this quote excerpt from a book and I thought it was a good one - "If it were easy to be patient, patience would hardly be considered a virtue."

Wow, two beautiful quilts.  Riana and Kris great work.  Will have to try piping on a small quilt.  Not sure I am ready to tackle the kaleidoscope quilt.

Mary glad you are okay in your neck of the woods.  We here have so much smoke from the fires we can taste it when outdoors, just went to get mail, yuck.  Zoe, glad you are starting to recover.  Hope no more hurricanes happen.

Riana, your Biblical Quilt is a masterpiece!  Nice that you learned a new technique for binding.  It looks special on the quilt, as Gail said.

Kris, your Kaleidoscope Quilt is beautiful!  I have a Ricky Timms video that I bought at a Day with him.  His way of quilting is so impressive.

Kris, I had to look that up. I realize now that that is not one block. It is hard to realize sometimes from the pictures.  I think you did a great job !
