Progress! I've begun re-hand quilting the wedding ring restoration project. Shown here is one ring center done. I still need to pull out old threads on the small ovals and redo those. There are still more patches to repair as well, sigh.

Thank you, Chris.  I am machine quilting 2 little quilts but I'll get back to sewing the rows together of the Scrap Basket Blues.  I would like to hand it in this month.  Tonight is a Zoom meeting of one of the guilds I belong to.  Jen Kingwell is the speaker.  We get good speakers when the meetings are on Zoom.

Liz, you Garden Walk is gorgeous! I love the fabrics and colors. Can’t wait to see your basket quilt photos.

Deanna, sorry to hear about your heat issues. Our spring, summer, and fall have been unusually hot for our region, but thankfully not as brutal as other parts of the country. I love your QOV. I made several for notation years ago and need to get back into making them.

Wilma, adorable dinosaur towel! My friend made some for my grandsons as baby shower gifts. They are always a hit! I like the Friendship quilt too. Gray idea to have it signed.

Riana, I loved the modern look of the quilt you made for the theatre group.  I hope that they do well on their fundraiser.

Dee, l love your persistance getting those borders to cooperate. Sometimes the fabric is just a bit unstable. I notice now that many patterns are written specifying borders be cut on the lengthwise grain rather than cross cut. This will quilt up beautifully. I am a volunteer longarm quilter for our QOV , and enjoy seeing the talents of the makers as they're on my frame.

Deanna, I'm so sorry you have had issues with the heat and now cooler temperatures and allergies.  I made good use of the a/c this summer and had my balcony door open lots of the time.  Now, I still try to have the door open for some time during the day to get fresh air.  I notice the difference the litter box makes in a small enclosed space.

Your QOV is really spectacular.  I haven't worked on one in recent times because we have not been able to meet.  I like the other projects I am doing.  They keep me busy.

I have been pretty quiet over here -- The heat has been so intense, and after my surgery in April I did get a cover over my deck to help with heat / sun coming in my door on the west side of my room. My neighbor had taken down a tree in his backyard that shaded my deck / door with windows into the room - I couldn't even breathe in there even with my ceiling and tower fan going.  So, fall is finally coming but that presents another problem. Swimming and cool air  + ragweed in the mornings has given me a cough & chest congestion -

but -- I did finally finish something !!  Announcing - the three year QOV ..  Karen loaned me this pattern so I could do it for our group - I actually started tracing the man at my son's house the year Elise turned 1 .. started it on our last sew day before the pandemic shut everything down.  One girl did the star section, one girl cut out my letters, I did the flag section, another sewed the letters on the bottom half, I did the man and assembled it all.  I had the borders on and they were wavy when I finally took it to a retreat to lay it on the floor. So, off with the borders, remeasured, recut, resewn, only to remove them again .. and again, remeasured, recut and redone .. and now .. KAREN, a huge thank you.. I know whoever gets this will truly appreciate it ..

Wilma, my grandsons loved bunny and kitty towels when little, but granddaughter would've loved a dragon, lol.

That dinosaur towel is so cute!  And it is the happiest one I've ever seen.  Today I haven't decided what I'll do yet.  It is a nice day.  I think I'll take a walk to the grocery store.

Macska is getting to be such a cuddly cat.  It sure is better with his nails clipped.  It is so funny how he wants to be on the table when I eat. He tries to get near my food and I have to keep putting up my arm to keep him away.  He tries to sneak under and over and around my arm but I don't let him through.  Then, when I read the paper, he sits on it and rolls around and I turn the page and he has to get his place on the new page.  He's eating well and hasn't been sick for a while, but he won't eat wet food at all.  I am feeding him Iams now and he likes it.

No Riana, I finished the binding this year, in fact the day I posted it.  I was a year off….think I was tired (old too. Lol).  Finished a cute hooded towel for great nephew’s 3rd birthday….he is really into dinosaurs…but his grandma said it had to be a happy one…

Nice friendship quilt, Wilma, a keepsake for sure ( if you did the binding in 2020, you got it done last yr.). Adding signatures this year is a " bonus", lol.

Still finding pieces with holes to applique over on dd's restoration wedding ring project, sigh. I think l'll start hand quilting it, then continue to repair as l come to a spot that needs it, just for a change of pace. Also still working on needlepoint, and decided to do 2 more travel quilt blocks ...but today l took the day off for golf :-))

Wilma, really nice heart quilt!  It will be a Good Friends quilt when your Featherweight group members sign it.

I watched a movie last night with Melissa McCarthy "The Starling" and it was very moving - about a couple who lost a child and how they recover.

I'm working on piecing  "Asian Beauty" and I'm ready to cut a backing for my next quiltie.

Well I finished a PHD.  It was from the prior year’s list.  I know I will not get grandson’s t-shirt quilt finished this year (too much to do, so will make it a 2022 project).  This one was started/finished in 2018, quilted in 2019 and bound in 2020.  It was a friendship quilt my Featherweight group made.  So, now that I am moving, I will have my current Featherweight group sign it.

Thank you, Riana.  I do belong to the Canadian Panel Club but ideas for panels that run long horizontally are scarce.  Most panels are skinny and long.

Comment by Riana Noyes on October 2, 2021 at 9:49am

Liz, l just sent you my " beautiful borders" board...it has a section called ' borders for panels'...lots of ideas. I thought you belonged to a fb group all about panels? No ideas there?

Comment by Elizabeth Phillips on October 2, 2021 at 9:08am

Thank you, Ginny.  I had forgotten the name of that site.  I found at pattern called Fox Tracks Quilt that gives the panel some length.

Today is my dental consult appt.  The challenge will be to find the office.  It's in a part of town I haven't been much.

Then, I can relax and quilt.  (Oh yes, the bread - got to buy some).

Elizabeth, Bear Creek Quilting has loads of free patterns to put with panels! Check them out!

I have been looking for a pattern to finish a 44x35 panel.  I need something on the top and bottom of the panel.  anyone have any ideas for me?  I have 3 panels the same size all ready to go.

Riana, maybe you have something for me in your "unique settings" section?

There must be some free patterns somewhere.  I am ready to machine quilt another quiltie.  That is the name the guild calls these small quilts.  The Australian magazine calls them "quiltlets". I have lots of Australian mags from the garage sale - all just like brand new.  They use different colours, a lot of applique, and medallion layouts - I notice.  I am thinking of using bits of their patterns for my little quilts.

Now that l've recovered my design wall, l can go ahead and get the travel quilt organized for layout. I found my layouts l liked...glad l saved them on my pinterest board " unique settings".
