Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
OOH! Mary, looks like there is still a lot of work to do. I found a scrappy "Fun With Bricks" UFO yesterday. I had stopped at the point where I was sewing 20 blocks into rows 4x5. I don't even recognize some of the fabrics. Anyway I started in on it again.
Mary, l think l like it with just the canvas color, as thus the figures show clearly. Any chance you have a " natural "or light oatmeal colored yarn?
Where you see the linen colored background needs filling in with crewel type embroidery stitches.
Ooh, how dissappointing for you . Hopefully only a narrow band of stitches requred .l'd be tempted to just cut off...but realize you must keep sizes of all pieces in series uniform.
Everything looks so good.
I knew I would have to hem, line and make a sleeve for the tapestry. When it was returned for that work, I happily cut it off the frame, and discovered it still needed stitching on the top. And the weather got very hot again. Any way here is what I need to do, before I can start the finish work.
Paul has been fussing with the printer connection and now the computer is not seeing my phone. Grumble.
Thankyou for the info on Quiltworx projects, Chris. Maybe next yr. I'll join in on a PHD project with one similar. I've been doing " easy" quilts for charity...don't want to get too complacent about challenging with new skill.
Liz, hubby wants you to keep busy so... A: you won't be worrying too much, and B: you won't find him new cleaning chores to complete , lol.
Kris, enjoyed the pat on the head! Hubby helped me take out all the safety pins this morning. I have been busy making 5 and 6" blocks for 2 quilts in the works. That's the first time in ages that Hubby helped with something as difficult as removing pins. He wanted to encourage me to keep going.
Liz, what a cute baby quilt! A baby quilt is on my list next, once I get Valley Blossoms done (or at least loaded on the long arm frame for quilting). My friend's first grandchild was born on Thursday and I am designing a custom quilt for him. I am trying to create applique blocks in Art N Stitch, and that is something I have never done before.
Kris-What a great jacket! Your State Parks quilt is really neat also. It seems like you have been really busy too!
Riana, I keep getting distracted ! Look what I found tonight ! Yes, I bought it. I have a friend who is 92 years old and her husband use to give her a stuffed bunny for her birthday each year. I will post what is going on in the UFO page. https://i.etsystatic.com/11046997/r/il/6d199f/1441564838/il_1588xN.1441564838_f1nw.jpg 2x" data-original-image-width="700" data-src-zoom-image="https://i.etsystatic.com/11046997/r/il/6d199f/1441564838/il_fullxfull.1441564838_f1nw.jpg" data-index="0" width="366" height="474" />
Thanks ladies! It was a ton of work, especially the embroidery on the borders. It seemed to take forever! Riana, the Quiltworx patterns come with all the pieces needed to complete each unit printed on large pieces of newsprint. Everything you need to do the whole quilt is included in the package, With step by step cutting, sewing, and assembly instructions. This one also included laser cut templates for the appliqué and I purchased the machine embroidery for the appliqué and cut the pieces with the included cut files for my Cameo.
Chris - that quilt is just wonderful! Good luck with getting it loaded this weekend. Happy quilting!
Elizabeth - you made me laugh with your good behavior story! I could pretend you are a little puppy and pat you on the head.......but I won't! Good luck with the second go round of sandwiching.
Thanks Ginny. I copied those also.
What a glorious quilt, Chris! Really beautiful!
Thos e are beautiful blocks, Riana! Thanks! Here is another site with free NYB blocks. -
Chris, all I can say is FABULOUS! I admire your skill and patience and ability to consentrate, I know all of that is required to turn out such a piece.
Chris, your Valley Blossoms quilt top is a masterpiece! You deserve a gold medal and many , many gold stars!
I messed up the sandwiching of my Visions of the Forest yesterday. I tried to fix it today but messed up again. Nothing ruined. I will take the pins out and press the front and back and try again with a better batting. I read your article on time - so all I've wasted is a day's work and another day's work to right the wrongs and get back to my starting point.
Also I want everyone to know that I lived up to my motto: Calm in the face of the storm. I was well behaved in the drug store and even in the grocery store today after lunch. My halo is shining so brightly!
Riana can your share the site with us where you found the free New York Beauty blocks? I also saw a picture of multiple NYB blocks that the lady said she gathered from different sights on the internet but didn't say where. I've been looking for these patterns.
Wow, Chris, that looks terrific already! Do these paper piecing patterns have full size sheets you must copy off? Or do they include multiple unit pieces already printed? I've only done small blocks of fpp. Recently, l found a free download of variations of New York Beauty blocks that you print off. It'll be my first whole quilt attempt of fpp. Thinking a bed topper to add colour to grandsons' guest room at our house.
Chris, It's Gorgeous. What a lot of patients you must have.
