I have my featherweight now also. It was born in September 1949 which is month and year I was born. Super excited. I purchased it from a friend of mine who had more than one and was going to sell one so she sold me the one I wanted.
I have two FWs--both acquired from garage sales. The first was a tan one and I paid only $10 for it...and didn't know for sure what I had until I could research it on the computer. It came alone in a plastic carrying case..no extras. Then a couple years ago, I was rushing to a meeting but saw a garage sale and stopped. And there was my 2nd one...with the case and attachments. That one was a bit more..$50. :>) I have used them only once in a while...but love the bragging rights almost as much as the machines!

Just popping in to read about everyone else's FW. I was blessed to have a friend give me one when she was moving to Europe. It is a 1937, my husband's birth year. Perfect condition except for handle on the case. I hated the smell of the case so I bought a pull carrier and use it to go back and forth to my weekly Bee. That is basically the only time I use this sweet machine.
Thank you for having me! Just got my first FW this week an she is from Great Britian. Hasn't been used for 40 years so I am looking forward to giving her a strip and spa treatment. Her first task will be a PHD I am working on. I also have a 503 Rocketeer, I am thinking of naming them Boris and Natasha!
Can't wait to read all the posts! I recently purchased a 1937 featherweight and love it. The case is really bad, so I decided to recover it. I have the fabric stripped off, some of the hardware removed, but some of the parts (hinges and feet) seem so hard to get off without breaking the wood. Any one else done this and have any suggestions? Also, does the 1937 model have the black numbered tension part? Mine doesn't but all the tension discs are there and it works fine. Is it missing this or were some made without it? So glad I found this site!
