block number one for April chosen by Vickie!   http://delawarequilts.com/BOMs/HiddenStars/index.html

       HIDDEN STAR.

The picture of the rough draft of the connecting square does come out to 12 1/2" unfinished. You would need:

4 - four patch units with focus fabric and background fabric: cut 2 1/2" strips of each fabric to make the four patch units. they end up being 4 1/2" square

4 - 4 1/2" square of background fabric

1 - Center unit = four patch unit with four different focus fabrics cutting each fabric into 2 1/2" strips to make the four patch OR one 4 1/2" square of one focus fabric. The center unit does NOT have any background fabric.

Then sew these blocks together like the diagram below - like a nine patch. That completes your alternate square. It will be 12 1/2" inches.

If you use all the same background fabric for both blocks (alternate and main blocks) then it will make the main blocks look like they are on point and float.

Not sure if this is clear or not. Let me know if you need clarification.

*****this is a block we can use as a connector block if you choose to do one. there are also others that would work on the Delaware page or you can do sashing or none at all!!  remember this is YOUR quilt and you can make it as large  or as small as you want.  if at any time you do not like a block you can choose a different one on your own or whatever..... lalalalla....... this is a no rules quilt along!!  work at the pace that  is pleasing to you! this will take a LONG TIME. we are only doing a block a month -  plus a connector- at least to start and see how everyone keeps up. lets just have fun and share our progress!

Ok, I have this luxurious triple black fabric that I got to make an Amish like quilt. This will suffice. I couldn't wait....here is mine, lol. To the left is my thoughts for the filler blocks. I'm just gonna let each block talk to me.

oh no!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw this on facebook!!!  hummmmmm  batiks AND black AND WHITE!?? I  may need to make some changes and rethink my setting. I love this . lololol

This is quite nice.  Love how it flows out into the border.

I did too Beth but then I realized it would not fit 12 inch blocks. it fits nine though so I will be doing one like this in nine inch blocks. a couple of the girls converted their blocks to 9 inch so they could use this pattern.:)

OMG I NEED that pattern.  It is fabulous.

Chris, the pattern comes from the book ''better by the dozen''  and the book also gives you compatible patterns or you can just use any 9 inch block patterns you like. :)

but you don't really need the book it is just 9 inch blocks partnered with triple irish chain connecting blocks. you can see how to do the borders. :)

I just got Judi Madsens book today! Woohoo!

Carla the picture just has a blue ? shown here I'd like to see it
