AQ Magazine

Let's talk about patterns! I'm Ann Hammel, Editor in Chief of American Quilter magazine. Several of you have already published patterns in American Quilter and I'd love to see more. I look forward to receiving your submissions for potential pattern (and other) articles - let's discuss it!

For plenty of information, go to and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click on "Become an AQS Writer!" at the bottom right corner, and you'll find out exactly what to do.

The pattern must be your ORIGINAL pattern and never published before. We provide all the drawings, etc., from your rough drafts. If we choose your pattern, we will need your "real" quilt (or project) for photography before it is published. It's fun, and you get paid!

I'm happy to answer any questions you have along the way to your pattern article, or even if you've simply wondered about it. Ask here, or drop me a line at I see awesome quilts on My Quilt Place every day. Let's work together to share the quilt love!!

Debra's here now...who of you have thought about submitting an article (pattern or otherwise) to AQ?

To find article submission information, go to and scroll to the bottom. On the right side, click on Become an AQS Writer!  That means patterns, too. Who knew YOU could become a published pattern designer? Well - actually I do. I know you can do it!

I'm learning to think far ahead when I think about AQ! I'm already making some lists that reach as far as the beginning of January 2018. That would give you a nice long time to be sure a quilt for a pattern article is done and ready! Send your ideas for (original) pattern articles to me at and we'll talk. I see awesome quilts uploaded here every day. You never know, the article selection group might pick your design the next time they meet!
