I'm just wondering how many of you belong to a guild.  A large one or a small one?  What do you do there?  I've been quilting for 5 years and have wanted to try out a guild from the beginning, but there isn't one in my area.  I'd love to start one, but I wouldn't know how to go about it.  I welcome any comments about guilds.  Thanks in advance!

Wow!  Now I really feel like I've been missing out!  The way you describe them, guilds sound much better than I could even imagine!  Even though I live in a small town I'm surprised there isn't one...especially since we have 2 very nice quilt shops.  I just think I'd really have a lot of fun getting to know other quilters; I loved being a lone quilter and teaching myself everything, but I feel like I'm really missing out on something now.  I think I'll ask the quilt shop owners if I can put up a flyer for anyone interested in joining a guild.  There's got to be someone more than myself who'd like one.

Thanks so much for all of your helpful information!

Check at your local quilt shop - If the employees aren't already members of a guild, they may be able to help you find one.  I belong to a guild, it's wonderful.  I used to be a lone quilter as well.  The friends I've made at the guild have been great.  We meet monthly, and have retreats 2x yearly.  It's a great social time.  One of my favorite parts of the meetings is the show and tell.  All efforts are applauded - an no one appreciates your work like other quilters.
I did check with the quilt shops and was very surprised no one is even interested (the employees).  That's why I thought I'd put up flyers because I'm sure I'm not the only one to wish for a guild!
