Let’s do a block to “remember” this interesting period of time in our lives.  A neighborhood filled with trees and houses in memory of our lockdown.  We would use permanent ink or embroidery to label your house with your name and state (also city if you like).

Use the FatCatPattern “Backyard Friends” ... all patterns on sale at their website 30% off with coupon code TEXAS til June 1.  Or use any Applique house / tree pattern that is 6-1/2w x 9-1/2h or 13w x 9-1/2h.  We will use a light background, but use your scraps for the trees or house.

The picture below is a finished quilt using this pattern.

UPDATED INFORMATION... Any light background color (white, cream, tone-on-tone, light blue), add windows, doors, hearts, etc. and any style house you desire (applique, embroidered or paper pieced), just stick to either of above sizes, please add extra 1/4” around to allow for true-up by quilter.

I am in, Wilma.  I think this is a cute way to use up fabric scraps.  And a way to remember friends who sustained me through this time of social distancing.  Unfortunately, we are miles apart and have never met, but our quilt conversations bring us close.

While I wait for our decision about background fabric, I will be making my trees and houses and placing them on parchment paper, which I have found is a good way to store appliqués until you are ready to iron them on the background fabric.

Great, looking forward to this.  I think it will be a great memory quilt of all we have been going through across this country.

How do I sign up?

I just add your name to the list.  Welcome Annie, nice to have you join.

Count me in.

Ok, this will be a nice exchange.

Although I won’t be participating In this swap, depending on how many yards and what color you need, I could get a good deal on Riley Blake solids. I have a resellers account through them. I find them to be even nicer quality than Kona, they are just the softest fabrics ever and don’t unravel as much as Kona. Bolts are 10 yards and I can do $5.50 a yard plus shipping. Take a look at their website for confetti cottons and let me know.

Thanks, Chris.  Let me look.

Wow, Chris, I had no idea they had so many colors.  I will keep them in mind for future projects.

I was visiting with a friend about this swap.  Are we being wasteful not to use what we have on hand instead of allowing different shades of a color?  I am of two minds about it.  On the one hand we want to use up scraps and on the other we are thinking of buying more.  I was part of a wonky house swap years ago and we got to suggest a color for the others to put our appliqués on.  I picked blue and actually all the blues did look pretty good together. Not matchy matchy but pretty good.  Of course the goal then was wonky and this quilt is a little more staid though only a little more.  What do you all think?

I have no problem if we use a fabric from our stash.  I think we should just decide on a background...off white, pure white, plain or with tone-on-tone.  Just so we are all in agreement on the background.  My preference is off white, either with or without tone-on-tone.

What does everyone think?

please, folks weigh in!

I’m of two minds.  Though I lean more towards white.  Wilma is for the above possibilities.  What seems good to you other quilters?  What would get others to join us?  What suits your tastes?   I will be patiently awaiting your thoughts.  I am just wondering.
