Hello, everyone.  I remember reading the last On Point thinking "I wish they would do a social network."  My wish came true!

I live in Bradenton, FL, on the west coast just a bit below Tampa.  I love it here!  I've been quilting since the 70's, but I here lately I've been focusing on Crazy Quilts.  I love all the hand work and the freedom of expression.  Never a dull moment with a CQ!  I've started a CQ group, just today.  I just joined today, so there's not much there yet, but it will be blossoming soon.

I am a frequent visitor to your area of Florida. We love Ana Maria Island. I always bring hand work with me, but often find it too hot to work with a needle for very long. I am currently watching the last of our snow melt as I gather up some blocks to work on at my meeting tonight. The warmth of a quilt on one's lap is very welcome here in Kansas City. Jill

I love Anna Maria, especially the pier area.  The best time of year to visit Florida is now.  Today we had a high in the 70's with a light breeze.  This is the time of year I like to sit outside and sew.

I have never been to Kansas City.  I grew up in Illinois, though, so I know what winter is.  Have fun at your meeting, Jill.

Thanks for sharing. It's so wonderful to have you here, and already adding so much. Keep up the great work Linda!

Hopefully, you can make some new connections, such as Jill, who share your love of quilting!

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I saw this either in a AQS email or on facebook. I joined on the 5th and have done some uploading of quilts today. Look forward to seeing all the creative expressions from across the country.

Hi Linny,

I too am a Florida a girl :-)  I am a little north of you, in the Tampa Bay area.

Hi, Jocelyn. Nice to meet you. Any good quilt shops up by you?
Actually we do not have any nice quilt shops in my area.  However, Quilts on Plum Lane in Dade City is a nice shop, as is Country Quilts and Bears in Clearwater.  Quilts on Plum Lane will be having a 30% off day on April 2nd.  Everything in the store will be on sale.  So it may be worth the drive, if you are interested.  Do you go to Cotton Patch??  I love their shop.  And it is an easier drive since she moved closer to the Interstate.

Yes I do go to Cotton Patch.  They have moved further away from me, though, so I don't get there as often.  But, they are closer to my work.  I was going to try to "power shop" there on my lunch, but haven't done it yet.  I'm afraid that I'll be unable to leave soon enough to get back to work on time and say, "oh what the heck" and stay all afternoon to shop, lol.  I'm sure my boss would love that!

Hi from the east coast of Florida. Used to live in Sarasota. I haven't made a crazy quilt yet but it's on my list.

I am looking for a new sewing machine. Any tips on what features you can't live without?
