Have you made a quilt for your father? What type of quilt? I would love to see some photos to get ideas.

I made this train quilt from a purchased pattern (perhaps from a magazine? It's been eons ago) for my dad soon after I started quilting. He's a huge model railroader and on the board of the Southern Historical Railway Society. Every train gathering he goes to, he takes the quilt to show off. It's been around! There are plastic railroad crossing and stop signs, a plastic cow is on one of the cow catchers, and the buttons are the steam/smoke. I used a really ugly striped fabric for the train tracks and they get the most compliments! Now that there are no longer cabooses at the end of every train, I used rose fabric for the last car and a long-stemmed red rose to signify the red end light and his other favorite hobby, rose-growing. Happy Father's Day, Dad!
Thanks for sharing this, Andi. Great detail and I'm sure he appreciates the extra love you put into it.
