Hi Nancy- I love this book & have had it for quite a while. Be sure to read the stories as you go along. I don't think I'll quilt along with you as I already have two BOM's going and need to do 30 blocks for a quilt retreat in the Fall. Not gonna mention how many WIP's I have (lol). Have fun.

Thanks Barbara, I do look forward to reading the entries as I plan and piece the blocks. It will be fun to see how everyone's quilt comes together over the year.  I have lots of fabric in my stash that will come into play here. I have chosen an anchor fabric to have the other fabric selection decisions be based on.  Enjoy your BOM's I have just one that keeps me busy as well.

Looking forward to your progress.  I picked up a UFO and am working on it. You can see it in my profile photo with my dog trying out the quilt top already.  One more row and it will be ready to be quilted.  Then back to the remaining blocks on the Farmer's Wife.  It is really a project, isn't it ?!

I see it is your profile picture too.  It looks lovely and your pooch is cute too.  Thanks for sharing all your Farmer's Wife blocks too.  I just purchased a new book you might be interested in - Material Obsessions 2.  I have the first book of Material Obsessions and used it to quilt 4 of my quilts.  This one is wonderful and inspiring as well.  I am starting to cut pieces for one in there called Jazz Fingers.  Each block has 72 pieces.  It will be a year's project for sure.

Have a wonderful day - we're going to be in the 100's today, what a way to ring in Summer.

I looked at your post and the sources you listed are the ones I have been following as well as http://www.quiltingboard.com/tpr?p=3493988&t=130237.  I have learned quite a bit piecing the 7 blocks I have done so far.  Most important for me is cutting the HST larger and then cutting them down to fit the squares they piece with.  That was important because they were't fitting just using the template provided.

I just got my Farmers' Wife Sampler quilt finished a couple weeks ago.  It was nearly a year long project.  I took a little different path with mine.  I wanted to distinguish the individual blocks a little better, so I used sashing and setting triangles with 63 of the 111 blocks.  I made the layout decision after I had completed many more than 63 blocks, but that will allow me to use the others for a bed runner or something like that. 

I made my blocks using paper piecing and almost completely from my stash fabric.  The sashing, setting blocks and backing were all purchased specifically for this quilt.  The fabric for the backing was Civil War reproduction type fabric.  It was a truly amazing project.  I just love how my FWS quilt turned out.

I love it and what you have done to focus on the individual blocks.  I am using my stash to create the blocks and imagine it will take me the year to get them completed. Your quilt gives me food for thought as to how I will design the completed quilt.  Thanks so much for sharing.
