I posted thison a blog too, but I thought our group would probably have an answer.

This is a Civil War reproduction block from a US Sanitary Commission Soldiers Cot Quilt housed at the Redlands CA Lincoln Memorial.  I have just come up empty when it comes to the name of the block.  Do you know?

I think the name is "Old Italian Block." I found that in Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, compiled by Barbara Brackman.

Well Barbara would know....I have many of her books but not this Encyclopedia....I better get it..thanks for the info....I thought it was called Criss-Cross

looks like a civil war block? Crossroads???

That's the name I came up with yesterday.  Blocks commonly have their name changed by region or family etc....It's hard to argue with Barbara Brackman..ha ha
