I saw an acuquilt in action while working with a group at a Texas RV resort. The owner has another brand as well that cuts larger pieces. She loved the speed and accuracy. However, you still need to cut stips to feed into the cutter (so some waste), and you are limited to the sizes/shapes of the dies. Those can be expensive.I was impressed mostly by the "shapes" for applique Eg. bird, flower etc. I wouldn't buy one myself because I like the cutting both by scissor and rotary blade, but I'd never be able to cut a multitude of scallop-edged squares (for rag quilts) for example...so it depends on what you're making. I think you should lay some heavy hints to your family for Christmas:)

I bought the accuquilt go baby on ebay because it was a good price. It came with one die. I have also purchsed another die which cuts 5"squares. The first die cut 1/2 square and squares that are 2 1/2 inches. It is nice for accuracy but the dies are cost prohibitive. Also there is alot of waste because you still have to cut strips. I would say I will probably use it only if I do not care about the waste of my fabric or to cut applique pieces. They also make a strip cutter. If strips are your problem. The best thing I can recommend is to have plenty of light. Make sure you measure twice and put nonslip film on the back of your rulers.
