Fellow Quilters,  I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a batik pineapple block swap.

I saw a post on facebook that said the pineapple has been considered a sign of hospitality since Colonial Times.  They were so hard to come by during that era that confectioners often rented a single pineapple out to multiple society hostesses over several days to be used as a table centerpiece. A woman's ability to have a real pineapple in her home spoke to her status within the community and, as an extension, her ability to make her guests feel welcome and important.  As a nod to that fabulous history and lets face it because they are just so stinkin' cute I thought it would be super fun to make a pineapple quilt with lost of different pineapples.  I thought a wide variety of different batik fabrics would make the quilt blocks just absolutely beautiful.  So who's in?

The requirements are simple...

This block swap will be a Batik Pineapple Block.  All experience levels welcome from beginner to expert. Blocks can be either patchwork or appliqué.  All blocks must be in to me no later than May 1st, 2019. We are looking for 12 people to participate.  if you are looking to participate let me know. Once I have a head count of how many people are participating I will let you know how many blocks each person should make.

Rules for the block:

Please wash all your fabric before you begin your project.  I request this to help ensure that colors don't run on the pretty white background fabric and so that you do not have to worry about varying shrinkage. Different fabrics shrink at different rates no matter how good your fabric is.

Please use good quality fabric.

Background fabric MUST be White or White on White. NO grey, tan, eucre, eggshell or off white.  White only!!!!!!!

The block size must be 12" finished blocks- (which means that when you mail it to me it should be 12 1/2" x 12 1/2")

The blocks can be any kind of Pineapple you want as long as you use batik fabrics.

if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Sewing strips together and cutting out leaves.  Still need to draw my pineapples...I think I have found the shape I like.

Anna, I love your pineapples!  I had not thought about embroidery, but may do some on quilt.  So cute and colorful!

Working ont these tonight....leaves all cut, strips for pineapples sewn and 6 cut out.  Should be done by Monday or Tuesday, depending on my husband's to-do list.  The background looks off white in this light, but is actually a white on white print - that's a sheet of plain paper on the left for comparison.  Maybe when they're sewn, I'll take a picture in daylight....

Melanie, If you get them in the mail this week it will all be good. Can I ask is that back ground white?  The photo makes it look kinda off white. Hopefully it’s just the light.

I did put a sheet of white paper next to it to show the poor lighting.  I haven't gotten around to taking another picture -will try to do one tomorrow.

Don’t stress about another picture. Just wanted to make sure it was white.

Your pineapples are sew cute! I hope yours made or are maling it out too because I would really like one of those also.

I ended up going camping so my blocks are still laying here in their envelop. Out they go now.

Won’t be long now!  Looking forward to seeing everyone’s pineapples!

It has been quiet. Did all the pine apples come in?

Sorry for the lack of communication I have been crazy at work the last 2 weeks. I wanted to let you know that all the pineapples but 1 have shown up. There was apparently a shipping issue. We have tracked the package and we are waiting on info from USPS to figure out where it is and when it will be arriving. I apologize for the delay. It was sent 2 weeks ago and should have arrived on time but you all know the postal service. In its own time. Everyone’s stacks are ready to be shipped as soon as it arrives. Thank you all for your patience in this process. I know you will all be happy with the blocks. They are all beautiful. You ladies did a fantastic job.

Thanks for the update, Jackie.  Let’s hope it is a quick fix for the USPS.
