This class session will be on Needle Tatting for students to learn the Josephine chain and a method for adding beads to embellish tatting. Each student will make a length of Josephine chain with large beads, which can be made into a bracelet by adding jewelry findings. The same techniques could be used to make earrings or other jewelry.
This class is suitable for students with little or no prior experience with needle tatting.
Cost: $25.00 for 3-hr class session per student, in small groups (no credit cards accepted). Private lessons are available for an additional fee.
Supplies needed: Tatting needles or assorted doll needles (3"-4" long, with large eye); Crochet cotton or perle cotton thread (size 5 or 8, recommended for Beginners) or Nylon crochet cord (size #2); Needle threader (sturdy with small metal hook preferred, by LoRan); Beads with medium hole (6 Swarovski crystals in size 10 mm used in sample); Jewelry Findings (split rings, clasp, etc.), Fray-Chek; Scissors; Reading glasses (as needed). NOTE: The tatting needle plus 3 strands of thread must fit through the hole in each bead.
I am offering classes on either Quilting or Needle Tatting or Crochet at both Hobby Lobby stores in Knoxville, TN. I am teaching sessions on Monday mornings, Tuesdays all day, Friday afternoon/evenings, and many Saturdays. Students can request special sessions at other times if a classroom is available.
The class taught on each date will be determined by what students request when they preregister with me. Students must preregister in advance (2 days preferred) to select the class topic & date/time.
A variety of class options in Quilting, Needle Tatting, & Crochet are available, and most are 3 hour classes. See the listing of classes on my page at myquiltplace.com/profile/MonicaSchmidt.
Arrive up to 15 minutes early for each class, to allow time to set up (especially for quilting classes using a sewing machine) & make your payment.
Supply list will be e-mailed to students (from me) after they preregister. Please allow enough time to receive your supply list & purchase all the supplies prior to class.
Kindly support Hobby Lobby when you purchase class supplies, so that the classroom space remains available. Hobby Lobby has a good selection of needles for tatting, crochet hooks, cotton & perle cotton threads for tatting or fine crochet, yarns, 100% cotton fabrics (including Kona solids), quilt batting, and basic quilting & sewing supplies.
Class sessions will not be held unless a minimum # of students preregister. I will call you directly if a class has to be cancelled.
Please do not come to the store for a class session unless you have registered with me in advance. I do not come to the store unless students have pre-registered. I only print class handouts for those who have pre-registered.
The store does not provide sewing machines and does not handle any registration details for the instructors.
