Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
So, yayyyyyyyy.. my grace frame arrived today, the machine to put in it will be here tomorrow, so YAYYYYY!
Unfortunately I have been sewing with the new sewing machine.. gotta say, I'm still in love, that could change dramatically the first time it messes up.. I've finished up three quilts since it arrived. I stupidly volunteered to put in a booth with quilts for sale for local humane society, I have no idea what I was thinking.. roughly 30 days to get as many quilts done as possible for this thing.. I'm doing all baby and lap size quilts, in simple patterns. On the plus side, I should get all of those baby fabric panels that have been hanging around in the stash at least sewed up.
Also unfortunately, I haven't cleaned off the space in the fabric storage room to set up the frame so I can get sewing asap. And I have 5 large boxes sitting in my front room waiting for someone to take them downstairs and open them and get the thing set up, lol.
So, action list... 1, clean up space for frame and machine. 2, Magically transport huge boxes downstairs. 3, Put frame together. 4, bounce around like it's 5 a.m. on Christmas morning til UPS arrives tomorrow with the machine. 5, Test the machine and frame and finally, 6, quilt all these darn tops that are sitting around all over my sewing room and pray they don't look absolutely awful when I'm done with them.
Hmm, put like that it doesn't seem like much... standing in the doorway of the storage room it's a whole other ballgame.

Ok ladies and gents.. here it is, laser is on it, as is the speed control, frame is mostly level, lol. It's set up for queen, but I do have the extra parts to expand if needed or wanted.
I won't be sewing anything til next week probably though, I ordered the cloth leaders instead of making them myself. I'm completely beat putting this thing together.. and I did not break any fingernails.. so I'll probably break them all tomorrow doing absolutely nothing, which is my plan for the rest of today and tomorrow.
Comment by viki hagan on September 13, 2012 at 11:35am Karen, I wouldn't envy the setting up part either...I have to say, this is one day I truly miss my ex, he would have had the wood sealed, the fabric storage all rearranged and the whole thing put together in no time at all... I even sent him a text to tell him what I was up to, he said he wished he was here to help, lol. I said ME TOO. Anyway, I'm back to it in a little while.
Comment by Karen Lightman on September 13, 2012 at 9:12am Woohoo!!! (jumping up and down)...I don't envy the setting up part but I do envy the the toys. I can't imagine how much quilting I could do with all that stuff. Be careful with the moving stuff down stairs. Nothing like getting new things to inspire quilting. Sometimes, when I'm not feeling like working on my projects I go buy myself a new magazine and BAM!...I'll get right back to business. Can you imagine what a new machine and frame would do for me? lol You have fun and I think it's really cool you're doing the fund raiser...all the little animals that will benefit from all these wonderful new toys...very cool : )
Comment by viki hagan on September 12, 2012 at 6:20pm Ok everything has arrived...but it's only halfway put together, I was going to set it up as a king frame, but halfway through that I would have to do some serious rearranging to get to the machine to use it..so back to square 3 or 4 to drop it back and set up as a queen. So basically, I'm sweaty and sore and tired and it's still not done..tomorrow, hopefully.
Ethelda yes, I have tried the frame before at the national quilt deal in Houston, I don't remember what machine was on it though. It's quite sturdy, aluminum and wood. How big is it.. hmm, big enough? lol, It's not particularly bulky if that's what you mean and is not particularly wide, I've seen a few that the legs stick out quite a bit, I always figured I would trip on one of those legs and break my neck as I tend to be quite clumsy.
Anyway, I am now one giant puddle of pain and misery, lol. So some tylenol and a hot shower are in my near future. I'll take pics when it's all set up.
Comment by Ethelda Hillsman on September 12, 2012 at 2:14pm Vicki, How exciting for you. We will also jump for joy when your new equipment arrives and you get to start using it. I've heard of the quilting frame, but have never seen one. Did you get to try it out somewhere before ordering? Also how big is it?

Comment by viki hagan on September 11, 2012 at 5:30pm Yes, rogue.. two new machines. The Singer to replace my poor dearly departed Janome and the Juki to go with the frame. I have managed to get two of the big boxes downstairs, but I may have to borrow my neighbor's grandson to get the other three down there.
And I will definitely hoot and holler when the machine is here and it's all set up.
