I finally finished my GFG king size quilt top.  Now I want to start hand quilting.  I have a large wooden hoop.  The quilt is so large and cumbersome.  Now I am considering a small floor hoop.  Have been on line and found the Ulmer floor quilt frame.  I like the looks and the fact that it is so portable.

Does anyone have this frame?  If so, pros and cons?

Thanks from Houston, TexasGFG2.jpg

i just finished an online search for ulmer q frames. had never heard of them. finally, after cruisin' thru, reading & bookmarking some nice sites...even found the type of "bright" lite that will clip to my q hoop frame :)) ...i read a out the ulmer. that looks like a perfect frame...esp if space to set it up is limited. this has been fun. glad you posted ...and congratulations on yoir new frame!

Kathy, I have owned an Ulmer quilt frame for over 10 years.  I love the portability of this floor frame.  It sets up quick and easy.  I would recommend it.

ok ...got it i think. wow...what a great idea. which size did you get carli? this is a lot of money...but since my two antique floor frames are each over a hundred years old....i guess some one of my heirs will find it to have been a good investment! lollol

Hi Kathy,

I just completed a large 107x107 king size quilt with hand quilting. I used a handmade rotating frame lap frame from Quilters Woodwork out of Ontario, Canada. I found the lap frame to be just the ticket for this cumbersome large quilt. I started in just after Christmas 2011 and finished it a few days ago. I'd stick with a frame that is workable for your lap of some sort, I had this quilt first in mind to use my large quilt frame, but my hubby convinced me that the frame would be too big for our livingroom for very long, so the lap quilt was great.
