As a single mom I've had a job for as long as I can remember.  Always so busy every single day. This year I find myself at home with a reasonably easy daily routine and plenty of time on my hands. So what do I do? I become a member of this website and join in on every "swap" I see!  Charm swaps, FQ swaps, and the most fun....quilt block swaps.  I am currently involved in three quilt block swaps and one FQ swap! That's just this week! Who knows what I'll join tomorrow. But I love them! I love having projects with deadlines and the fact that each project is so theme specific. It's wonderful practice for someone such as myself; someone who is learning all the different styles of quilting. As far as fabric swapping goes I can say by now that I can tell if it's a Moda  just by the plush feel of the fabric when I open that wonderful treat I get in my mailbox. Because ultimately it's all about getting stuff in the mail for me! I love it! I love going to the mailbox and seeing that special envelope...it's always so recognizable. Those envelopes have the feel  of too much tape (I have used bandage tape before, my mom and me were at her doctor's office and I needed tape....) and also a nice flexibility that regular mail doesn't have. Even my boyfriend gets a little excited to see what we get!

Speaking of what we get, it's always so wonderful. Receiving samples of what other quilters can do or getting fabrics from others is a physical token of the kinship we share on this website.  I see a lot of the same folks on various swaps and I feel like they're my friends by now. ( Carol, Viki, Melanie, Rogue..you know who you are :) ) I actually know their tastes and preferences. We have communicated beyond the realms of cyberspace...into our homes with tangible proof of our friendship. That's important to someone who is confined to a smaller world than they used to be in. I get out enough and see my friends but it's nice to belong to this community as well; especially those times when I'm confined to my mother's bedside. You guys have no idea how much you fill my days up sometimes.  I belong to the group "Swapping Is Fun for Everyone" but it should be called "Swapping is Soul Food" because that's what it is. I'm totally addicted and I look forward to seeing you guys in future swaps.

Karen, Rogue, Melanie and Vicki - I'm laughing as sit here this morning reading all these posts.  I do so enjoy reading about what each of you is doing, working on, suffering through, laughing about.   This is truly a wonderful community...  I've participated in a charm swap and am in my second block swap now - how much fun is it to watch the mail and receive those wonderful packages from all over... I feel as if I'm really getting to know some of you - smile and tear up at your posts.  Oh and Melaine, also recently retired (husband sold business where we both worked) but I can definitely relate -- ug!  My house is so much more a disaster now!!!  But I'm not complaining!  Everyone have a WONDERFUL day and keep posting to MQP, my friends!!!

Another Quilty Buddy on the blog site!  I also am enjoying the swaps and the Quilting Bees (you should try those out too - helps me get on track when things are crazy).  Retirement is different for me - my choice, but no one tells you what is going to happen when you retire.  All of a sudden you don't have any place that you HAVE to be every day.  You can sleep in or not, stay up real late (duh) and quilt all day if you want to.  Unfortunately, my dining room looks worse now than when I worked!  Amazing to be semi-organized at work for money, but turn me loose at home and it's a major disaster...

Anyway, I also have found many friends at MQP and am loving it.  Quilt away and enjoy all the mail - do you have a letter carrier or PO Box?  DH has no idea how close I'm getting to our postal workers....
