This state of liberty was all paper pieced except for the borders.

You'll love restoring this beauty, I love the random backgrounds as well. You've just reminded me that I have been given hand-stitched star blocks (all ecru background with peach stars) donated for church bazaar by someone clearing out their home. My job is to get them "cleaned up" size-wise (all off a bit) and add some sashing to get sized to double or queen. The ladies & I will quilt in the fall for  Christmas bazaar.I've been so busy watering my very dry gardens, and babysitting, not much time for sewing.

what a beautiful treasure! lots of "bubblegum pink" i have really bad heat headache tonight (again:(.. )..but i think that pink was 40's ?? 50's ?? will try to look it up tomorrow. i love the quilts that have it in them. i found a string star at a flea mkt..20$ or so...absolutely does not lay flat. lots & lots of that pink in it! debated w self ever since...take it apart..fix it or no. i also have a "lone star" that was in with the tops given me after my gramma passed. i was told that it was made by a "blind man", a good friend of my gramma's. she had pretty much stopped piecing & quilting by the time i was sent to live w her in early fifties. no pink in her quilts :)). the lone star is off in the center when the two halves were joined, otherwise, for having been pieced by a "blind man" it is beautifully made, w incredible shirting fabs..mens etc. i never met him, and i don't remember amy of her friends having blind husbands. he was probably what we would refer to now as "legally blind". the star is unquilted..i thought about taking it apart & resetting it. was told by new quilt acquaintences & mentors, where i was living in pennsylvania, at the time i learned to quilt, that i should leave all the quilts as i recieved them. for historical reasons. at the time, the novice quilter that i was, bowed to thier superior knowledge of antique quilts. and have just taken them out over the years, shared & refolded. but have decided now that at least one will be quilted for oldest grchild to recieve as an adult ... this gives me a wee bit o'time since she just turned 5 :)).

thank you so much for taking the time to share a photo & the story of your treasure.
