So here's the deal.. I have been sick with CFIDS (chronic fatigue immunodeficiency syndrom) for just over three years now. Two years ago, I quit working.. I had a fantastic job that let me wear shorts to work, I didn't have to put on any makeup, and no one cared if I wore a ball cap cause I didn't get up in time to do something about my hair. It also happened to be very physically challenging, so it pretty much kept me at a nice trim size 8 with some well defined upper body muscles. Then came CFIDS, and with it, the inability to keep working and an extremely difficult time even exercising for a few minutes a day. Flash forward to now at a size 14 with not a muscle in sight.  Anyway, it's making me crazy that everything I own is too tight to wear in public, lol. And could possibly get me an indecent exposure ticket or something.

So, here's the plan. Since exercising is almost out of the question, something else must happen. You've all seen the commercials or ads online.. Sensa. Yep, I ordered it. It arrived about a week ago and I've been sprinkling it on everything as it says. I've lost one pound so far, a pound a week and I'll be very happy.. happier if that picks up a bit. But, I can confirm that it does do away with the cravings and the second helpings. I almost had to make myself eat a popsicle yesterday afternoon.. and then I thought... DUH! the whole idea is not to eat popsicles, lol. Anyway, I've got 25 more days to 'test' this stuff and decide if I want to pay their exorbitant price or not... and yest I checked with a Dr. first.. the boyfriend who happens to be a doc counts right? lol  So, if anyone is interested in my experimentation with this stuff, I'll keep ya posted.

that's what happens on good days.. you do too much.. I fall for it every time, but at least the house gets cleaned up and errands run or any other thing that needs doing. I love photography, but I can't get out in the heat, when I first moved to the southwest I got heat stroke the first summer there so now the heat just does a number on me, other than a few random albino people I'm probably about as white as you can get, especially in the summer time.. my oh so charming boyfriend, who happens to be black, always says, of course you get sick and burnt up out in the sun baby, you're pale, lol.. coming from him pale is a bit of an understatement, cracks me up every time.  Though I haven't added to it in some time, I do have a page on redbubble.com of my photos, you can look at them by putting my name in the search box if you want to wander by there sometime.. the bf gave me this fantastic sony digital dslr and I just don't get out enough to make proper use of it... something I need to put on my to do list.. more wandering of new areas with camera

lollol!! yah..speaking of laundry! i have been into landscape photography all my adult life. so...getting out on winter snow & beautiful times of incredible hoarfrost to do pics isn't too diff. tho i missed some good times for such lst fall/winter staying in and helping my two best friends ease into another stage of existence. did go for one last winter walk with keisha, my beloved wolf dog, on one of her last "good" days. w/o these two furry friends, i won't be as enthisiastic about winter scenics as in the past. couldn't get out to garden ...till really too late. so depressed to go out w/o my co-workers. it is so difficult, as you know, to lose these sort of friends. so...i really have to stay on top of the wt thing this coming winter... the wt gain really exacerbates the back & other wt bearing joints rife w arthritis and the accompanying pain. wt loss for me isn't fun, but it is a mandatory part of my being able to get around. i HATE my pain pills...and wait too long to take. but exercise, as you noted, also does a job on me. so balancing act. right now really not doing well w the heat, it is so draining. and coming week supposed to go even higher. but...!!...got my "prairie princess" sock monkey doll finished for friends' grbaby, and as soon as she gets it (mail to holland) i will post pics of it & mini quilt pattern we both did with same & diff fabs. both her & my interpretations. they are uber cool :)). but she spends a lot more time net wandering than i do..so, can't share w y'all till she gets pkg. so excited! lollollol. love love LOVE!! finishing...free to work on others + start so ething more to add to wip's lollollollol!!!

....and the work space cleaned and reasy ro lay out & baste my applique borders for my blue & yellow quilt!

i am so exhausted, and still have to fix dinner...i will not be able to lift my head from the pillow tomorrow a.m. ! lollol

lol.. I used to do that too, something about going out in 2 feet of snow to take a walk .. granted I wish I was losing faster but you're right, slow and steady is best and really I can't complain, if I could exercise at all without losing two days each time to my bed, I would do a lot more of it.. right now my exercise is doing dishes and going up and down the stairs to my sewing room or to do laundry.. which I really need to do some of

this is great news viki. and fr the 'ol nursey perspective, it is great to hear a success. small losses over a span of time are the best way to lose wt. healthiest. and it is easier to maintain the loss over time as one usually learns new and better eating habits over that time. my big downfall is, not following my exercise regimine in winter months. over the last couple of yrs have been gaining ten each winter losing it each summer. dwn my ten now..really need to have long and serious talk w self before winter. this swing, tho not large, am sure plays havoc w all my other health issues. you will be my insperation & guide as we head into the fall and winter months!

Ok, so an update.. as of this morning, I've lost 5 lbs. Not bad for someone with an almost completely sedentary lifestyle. (I get on the scale in the mornings, fully dressed every few days) The stuff seems to work pretty well, I've had a few days of having an extra snack or two, but really not much. I start month two in another week or so, so we'll see if it continues. On a side note.. yayyyy my slight snug t's fit great right now, can't wait til they are too big again, lol.

Lora, not to worry, my thyroid has been checked and rechecked so many times it's not even funny anymore. When the low levels were first detected, my dr at the time put me on a natural medication instead of the more popular synthetic hormones and each time he checked it after that my levels had increased, after about six months he took me off them completely because at that point I overproducing just a bit and my levels have remained at that point ever since. The theory is, my thyroid glands just needed a kick in the pants so to speak to get moving. Believe me when I say, low thyroid could contribute to CFIDS, but it could never cause this kind of fatigue, I know this because my mother is missing her thyroid glands entirely, she lost them to illness as a teenager. Not to mention that in the years of testing to find out what was wrong with me, absolutely no stone has been unturned to find a treatable diagnosis, rather than CFIDS as CFIDS is a 'dead end' diagnosis, doctors don't like giving it because it essentially means there is nothing further they can do to help you.

It's also very hard for CFIDS patients to cut out things like carbs from our diets, as preparing any kind of special 'diet' meals is often simply too exhausting. I eat a lot of fruit and pre-packaged salads, unfortunately I also eat a lot of cold cereal and quick sandwiches on the really bad days. As rogue said, it's like having the flu every single day of your life, some days you're just starting to come down with it and they aren't too bad, other days it's the worst flu of your life and getting out of bed just isn't an option. Most days are somewhere in between with the requisite body aches, fever, sore throat and tender adrenal glands. It takes away your life but leaves you sitting there looking just fine so people think you're either crazy, lazy or looking for attention. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

I feel uneasy with the statement saying thyroid problems had gone away.  Weight gain, lethargy, these can be thyroid problem symptoms.  Cutting out carbohydrates worked for me as an aid to weight loss.  I definitely think joining a weight loss support group is good.

Thanks Susan, it's amazing how much we take for granted the abilities we have to take care of ourselves and our stuff, lol, until we can't do it anymore. So it goes.

I did see the Dr. this morning and told him about the Sensa thing, he didn't know much about it, I know I've sent him on a research spree, he's that kind of doctor, curious about everything. I think he'll be practicing when he's 90 he has such curiosity about things. And even though he didn't know much about it, he did look it up online right there in the office with me, lol. He was pleased to know I had started something to lose some weight, my blood pressure is up a bit and he knows how much it bothers me to be so out of shape. I'm considering joining Weight Watchers online as a complimentary deal, will wait a few weeks though until I'm settled into remembering to use the Sensa every time I eat.

Viki, wishign you well!  I had never heard of CFIDS but went back and read all the posts - I feel so for all of you who are dealing with such debilitating conditions on a daily basis.  Best wishes and prayers for each of you!  Now I feel guilty - have to get off my butt and clean my house. Because I can.  God bless!

Well, so far so good. Lost another pound and still no overeating or odd cravings, I could save on a fortune on groceries this way, lol. Amazing how far food goes when you aren't constantly munching on stuff. And this is the week for munching, but nope, the shaking stuff is doing it's mojo. Their ads say average of 30 lbs in 6 months, that would be awesome, but honestly I'll be happy if I only lose ten as long as I don't gain anymore.
