Amy & Anita
I took a class through the Omaha Quilt Guild from Anita Shackleford on using large prints. I love this Amy Butler print but didn't know how to use it. I've been working on the new Modern Mystery Quilt and recently finished a quilt top from the Fabric Fusion design that Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr published in the magazine. I realized as I was finishing the hand quilting on Amy & Anita that it too could be an early introduction into some of the Modern quilting concepts. It took me 4 years work through the evolution on this quilt, hopefully the next one won't take so long! I'm posting a photo of the back also so that you can see the Amy fabric in it's full glory!

this is really beautiful susie. i see what you mean...it does look a little modern. have admired anita shacklefords work for many years. how lucky you were to be able to take a class from her. i like what you did w the back. i agree that a pieced back is lovely way to showcase a beautiful large motif print. i did the back of one quilt this way...i had fussy cut floral arrangements for the blocks of quilt top, wanted to use the floral for back...but it needed some "calming" i felt. so combined w another fab used in top in strips. the hardest part of the process was getting the width of the strips of the two fabric in a balance that i found pleasing. i point this out because as lovely and simple as this backing treatment is...i would like to say that it certainly takes as much thought and design time as a pieced top can. thank you for sharing the story & the photos. i so love this quilt...and its back!
